The question is inm the title. Is it safe to shoot this out of a 9mm P226? Will it cause alot of wear and tear? Thanks.

It’s safe.  My former agency used +P+ 9MM ammo in P226’s and P228’s for years with no problems.  Also, Secret Service used +P+ in their P228’s (before going to P229’s in .357 Sig).

Just make sure you’re limiting yourself to US made commercial +P+ ammo.  (There is some really hot European surplus sub-gun ammo that has been repacked and sold here as +P+ ammo that should be avoided.)

Naturally, +P+ ammo will accelerate wear in any firearm.

+P+ is not a SAAMI designation, so Sig doesn't rate their pistols to fire +P+. That said, plenty of people do. It will cause more wear and tear, but it's not like we see too many 'worn out' P226s out there.
