Hi, I'm in the Marines and was wondering a what a good side arm would be. We're using a 9mm now, and considering going back to the .45. What would a good .45 be, just to be ahead of the Corps. Any suggestions?

USP 45 Fullsize would be the perfect choice.  Reliable, expensive but not too expensive, high capacity, good recoil absorption, and the formidable look.

My buddy back from Iraq now feels the need to CCW everywhere he goes and really likes the Glock 30 in .45 cal.

The Kimber isn't a bad idea.

HK isn't either  but you get a better gun with Kimber- just slightly but better.

(Night sights probably come std, and it has a better trigger and less muzzle rise.)

The only problem with the HK USP is the proprietary rail system. They were the first to do it, unfortunately it wasn't a universal rail like everyone else who's followed after. Don't get me wrong, I love my HK; but that's a huge downfall. Sure there are adapters, but that just cuts in to the already too-small number of holsters out there for the USP.

Thanks everyone, I'll look into those. I was talking to a Sgt earlier who also suggested the Glock 30.

As most other people here have said: Glock 21 if you wanted .45

Now, if you wanted 9mm, I think we should all switch to the G19.

Not to be the black sheep, but I just bought an XD .45ACP and I love it.  13 rd mag capacity, polymer stock, very clean gun.  I've shot it once at the range, not had a problem and am really impressed with it.

Just my two cents
