My wife prefers my 9mms. What is funny is she is a tiny woman and likes my Beretta 92s grip. However if she picks one out to take with her she usualy grabs the Glock 19 but has said she wants a Khar 9mm. She is the typical woman who is not into guns be realizes they are a tool that is needed and she does like to go shoot with me from time to time. Getting her to carry any pistol is a chore in itself. She is not anti-gun at all but does not want to be bothered with it. If she is going somewhere that she thinks she might be better off with it though she takes it with her. I would look at Khars, Glock 19s, Keltec 9mms or 32s. Just my opinion.

no married

but just for some info on what i know: most ladies i have shot with prefer .22lrs pistols

a couple did like the .45acps and 9mms, but most went back to the .22lr; on the other hand, some did not like the trigger pulls, others did not like the grip size, etc...

overall (for any novice shooter, in general), i would start em off on a .22lr revolver or auto or something like that

for a self-defensive cartrige, i would start at a 9mm auto or a .38spl revolver

hit the gun shops and get a feel for the guns that feel comfortable in the hand--and if you can dry fire it to get a feel on the trigger pull, thats a bonus
get the one that just feels good (grip, trigger, and recoil wise)

h/w, there is also the matter of caliber--all calibers feel different to shoot
get the largest caliber that feels good to shoot (general rule)--not something that makes you reluctant to shoot it

practice and hopefully the nervousness will leave and confidence will enter

My girlfriend has a Kahr PM9 and loves it.  However,  recoil has never been a problem for her.  She would like to get a revolver next,  and will probably be looking at some 38 spl for her.

My wife can shoot the shit out of my GLOCK 19. I plan to get her a Kahr PM9 for size and weight considerations.

I am a wife.

I have a 9mm Colt Commander.
I want a 9mm Beretta PX4 Storm or a 9mm HK P2000.  The P2000 is my longtime wish, but the PX4 is cheaper and more realistic for me.

Stick with 9mm or .38 unless your wife is big (not fat -- big).  I'm 5'7" and small framed (especially my wrists) and I don't enjoy shooting anything bigger.

My wife shoots a SA 1911 .45 or Beretta .40.  She says that 9mm doesn't have enough kick.  She likes to feel the gun.  Not bad for a girl barely pushing 100pds.

My wife is 5'- 3 @ 100 lbs and "her gun" in my Series 70 Gold Cup, .45 ACP.

It used to be "my gun", till she tried it and found it hits whatever she is aiming at!

It gets funny at gun shows & gun stores. She will be looking and some 'expert' will tell her she should look at a LadySmith.

Her response is that she has a Lady Remington that she shaves her legs with and wants to know if a LadySmith is the same thing???

But overall, if you are comfortable with it and can shoot it well, that is the gun to use!

A .22 between the eyes is more effective than a .44 mag passing close to someone's ear…

my wife owns and shoots a S&W40VE, HK USP compact in 9mm, Walther P22 and her AR15. we're not allowed to carry in this state, well you can if you know the right people or a buisness owner, personal protection is no longer a reason for the state to issue permits.

My wifes primary is a Beretta 86.  Its a 380 with a tip up barrel.  She likes the light weight and the fact that she doesnt have to rack a slide to chamber a round.

she has a bersa 95 .380 she likes but, I think she wishes she had gotten a .38.  Although she hates my small .357.....I wonder why hehe.  I like to call it spanky.

Mine currently loves her Taurus 85 .38 spl.  She doesn't want to mess with magazines or pulling slides.  He says she's happy with the 5 shot loaded with 147 gr. +P+ jhp.  She says she isn't going to shoot untill there REAL close!

My wife carries a Taurus 111.  I bought it for her on impulse at a gun show.  I'll never do that again!  We are currently saving up for a SA Champion or Kimber ProCarry for her.  She has a full size 1911 (Armscor Clone) and like the 1911.  She's 5'11" and has no problem with recoil from her 9mm or the .45.

I know somebody that has both in 9mm and he says that the PX4 shoots almost better than the P2000 then going on considering the price difference the PX4 wins

there is the option to have the "safty, decocker" lever exchanged for a slime line version so it doesn't stick out of the slide
though if you lile those 2 guns you also might want to look at a Walther P99. There is 2 version of the fullsize in 9mm...... DA/SA which is P99/AS (stands for anti stress trigger) or the P99/QA which is a precocked striker fired one (light DAO with short reset same triggerpull from first to last shot)

My wife's main gun Sig P229 DAK in 40S&W.  She is spot on and it has the right amount of kick and the grip fits her hand.  She is also a BIG fan of the Mossberg 590 12gauge.

ditto on the pepper spray.

Sig P228 on the nightstand.

We're both most familiar with that one out of my two 9mms.

the only thing she doesn't like about the sig is the recoil and difficulty racking the slide...

I need to find her a good *non-blowback* .380 to shoot..

she hates the makarov because it doesn't fit her hand right and its too snappy for her tastes.

My wife (5' and 100lbs) shoots a 870,g19,cw9 and a M4gery. Although she likes the firepower of the g19, she prefers the Kahr cw9 as it fits her small hands alot better. She loves her M4 the best. Her absolute choice above all others would be my buddys full auto AK with a 75rd drum. The first time she shot the AK she was in heaven for a week.

+1 on the Glock 26(9mm)...it is an excellent carry gun for my wife's purse.

She keeps a Glock 19(9MM)  w/ M6 light/laser on the nightstand.

She likes the 9MM caliber better than any other.

I am still trying to get her out to shoot my M4gery and my Vepr K. She will shoot my Storm 9MM rifle but not much else.

BTW, my wife was scared to death of guns at the beginning, and has learned to really enjoy shooting and got her CCW last year. Give your wife time and she will probably learn to enjoy shooting.
