Hello,

I'm trying to figure out what the federal law is about purchasing a handgun from a non-FFL if you are 18 or older but not yet 21. I cannot seem to find this information and the ATF does not have it covered in their FAQ section.

Here in MN, it appears as if it is legal for an 18, 19, or 20 year old to aquire a handgun from another private citizen since it says on the permit application in essence "18 to aquire a pistol or assault weapon, but federal law requires 21 to purchase a pistol from a licenced dealer."  I do plan on double checking that with the DOJ.

I am not going to act on information I get here, taking legal advise from a forum would be uber dumb. I looking for someone who can point me in the right direction. Therefore I will have something to go on if I when I contact ATF or the local authorities. Thanks for the help.
