I also thought I didn’t have to shorten my screws. Here are photos of what occurs when you don’t….

You can’t tell there is damage unless it creates malfunctions or pull the plates out of your slide!

As to malfunctions with Federal American Eagle (Fiocchi) ammo,

This is a photo of the ONLY malfunction our P90 has ever had…..

I haven’t taken photos of the NUMEROUS failures I’ve had, if you think it’s just me go over to fnforum.net. There are many reports of failures with it. Also check out the Facebook page for S&W 5.7 several reports of failures.

Again, no problems here. Sorry you had issues

As I understand it you just got yours. Hopefully PSA has been paying attention to the feedback and is now shipping the correct length screws.

Nope!

PSA doesn’t supply screws, Holosun does.

If you standard unmodified screws, you Have damaged your gun!

I sit corrected. Maybe Holosun is supplying the correct length screws.

I got to handle a S&W 57 today, it felt terrible in my hands, I actually prefer the Ruger or even the FNH. Hopefully the PSA Rock is better.

For me grip fitment wise Rock > FN > Ruger > SW

I posted this in one of the other 5.7 threads and thought maybe some different eyes might be in this thread...

Has anybody tried one of the grip sleeves on the S+W to make it feel better in the hand?

I went with this because of a special occasion. I only have experience with the FN pistols. The other options are quite a bit cheaper, especially the Rock with 10 magazine packages. I also have a PS90 SBR so I have been shooting 5.7 guns for almost 10 years.

Having owned a Rock and a FN I'd say Rock. great ergos, higher cap and it runs and runs. Great company too.

My PSA Rock runs like a scalded ape. It is accurate and a joy to shoot. The follow up shots are so quick as to be comical. Love it.

After doing a lot of research last night I ordered a PSA Rock. I'm getting a two-tone sniper green/black, optics ready, with the 5.2" threaded barrel, 10 mags, and a soft case. This will be my first foray in 5.7-land. At some point I'll probably add a Holosun 407K but first I want to try it with irons.

Friend has one of the Rugers.  Fun gun to shoot but I'm not sure I see the point of it.  Strikes me as an expensive 22 magnum, which is already expensive enough.  Zero interest in owning one.

I just got a FDE Ruger. Nice looking gun, but but I didn’t like the mag release, so I replaced it with the type that comes on the LC Carbine; takes maybe 15 seconds to switch out.
It also has a trigger that makes a Glock oem trigger seem like a high-end match job. Looooong travel, very spongey, and a reset that's almost imperceptible even if you're concentrating on it. That got replaced with a Galloway Precision adjustable trigger ($40), which is MUCH better, but it's kind of a pain in the ass to install.
I'll probably stick a Holosun EPS on it pretty soon.

ETA: For those that buy a GP trigger for the Ruger 57, Galloway's instruction video is awful. Use the Tandemkross instruction video for their own "Victory" trigger as a guide instead.

To me it makes sense with the right ammo in a compact PDW.

In a pistol, it seems sort of like a solution looking for a problem.

I picked it up today and my initial impressions are favorable. I hope to shoot it this weekend.

Initial thoughts without having fired it:

  • The grip is nice. My hands are on the small side but I have no problems gripping it comfortably. The grip reminds me of a S&W M&P-9.
  • Good three-dot sights.
  • The trigger pull is heavy but has minimal takeup and a short reset. No noticeable creep.
  • The finish on the slide is nicely applied.
  • The magazine catch is a bit stiff. I'm sure that will break in.
  • Field stripping and reassembly are easy. The takedown catch is much easier to use than on a Glock.
  • The zippered case that it came in is very nice.
  • Very nice owner's manual printed on good quality, glossy paper.

I will shoot it first with iron sights but plan to mount a dot in the near future.

With my Beretta M9 for scale:

I've gotten out of the 5.7 game. Sold the PS90 & the PSA Rock.

No issues w/the guns themselves. The PS90 was better as an idea for me & then sold the Rock because not going to stock a caliber just for 1 pistol that I was not in love with

That was quick.

I understand. Same reason I didn't hop on the 6.5 Creedmoor wagon.

Never had an issue with AE ammo out of my FiveSeveN with over 3,000 rounds.
IIRC, as a bonus some tests showed the AE has decent terminal performance, which is nice considering it is basic “Range” ammo for the 5.7

Nice flat trajectory means you can work on some longer range shooting (for a handgun).

Yep, here is a copy of a post comparing 5.7 pistols

S&W

PROS

Best trigger pull by far
Slimmest Grip
Lowest Recoil
Easy to install a Dot Sight (RMRc footprint)
Easy to use safety
Holds 22 rounds in the magazine

CONS

Jamming issue!!!!! Probably Magazine Related FIXED
Will not feed Federal American Eagle reliability (ammo is CRAP, manufactured by Fiocchi)
Some shooters consider the grip uncomfortable
Screws are a BITCH to find for mounting the DOT sight (6-32 x 1/2”) See comment below

PSA Rock

PROS

Relatively Inexpensive (Each one of mine was $599 SHIPPED w/10 magazines)
Available in colors
Low Recoil
Comfortable grip (more so than the S&W) Has palm swells
Holds 23 rounds in the magazine
Runs reliably
Easy to install a Dot Sight RMRc footprint
Uses Glock 17 sights

CONS

You MUST shorten the HOLOSUN screws
NO Safety available

Ruger 57

PROS

BEST looking
Will take PSA Rock magazines
Sights are decent
Magazine holds 20 rounds
GREAT Safety

CONS

ABSOLUTELY the WORST magazine release of ALL, even if you install the extended release
The Dot Sight mounts on TOP of the slide
Easily the WORST 5.7 pistol on the market!!!

FN MK II

PROS

DEAD ASS RELIABLE
Magazine holds 20 rounds
Has a Safety
Easy takedown
First readily available 5.7 pistol

CONS

HARD to mound a Dot sight
Replacement sights are EXPENSIVE
SOME shooters dislike the Safety position

FN MK III MRD

PROS

Easy to mount a DOT sight (RMR footprint)|
If you liked the FN MK II, you will LOVE the MK III
DEAD ASS RELIABLE
Has a Safety
Easy Takedown
You can use MK II magazines with a SLIGHT modification

CONS

Dated design
SOME shooters dislike the Safety position

My collection…

As someone who only owned a Ruger 5.7, what makes it the worst 5.7?

Not rhetorical or sarcastic, you obviously have a pension for 5.7 and can explain.

I've always been interested in the round, but the firearms never interested me..

S&W

Look, Ruger made one so we will too!!

PSA

Looks cheap... is cheap... sure it works fine, but so do most hi-points..

Ruger

Only one company makes a 5.7, let's get one released at half price of the current offering and we can sweep that market quick.

FN

We're FN. Doesn't matter that it's the size of a 4" N-Frame revolver chambered in a very low mass low recoiling round,  they will come, and they will come with cash in hand...
Have we mentioned we're FN?!
