I agree it depends. I will go 100-150 in a 1911. Gun’s originally designed from the ground up to feed defensive ammo ( most modern designs glock sig hk beretta) a couple Mags is sufficient. In my revolvers a couple cylinders is plenty. Once loaded and ready the same
Ammo can stand ready for years so I rarely rotate or shoot up carry ammo.

2 boxes (100 rounds) using 2 full mags each time.
Provided not a single issue then its good to go and the 2 mags are marked to be able to tell them apart from others.
Each range trip there after, one mag is used.
