Just picked up my VP9SK, and have some SD ammo laying around I would like to test. The barrel is 3.39" long, which is obviously a factor here. Which of these do you think will be the best performer?

All of those are solid choices. I would shoot them all and decide based on what your gun shoots best.

Why rule out the regular pressure 147 HST?

It may be the best of the 9mm HST choices.

Don't you have this thread already?

Shootingthebull410 had the best results with any HST and Train and Defend from a 3" barrel.

Right now I have my little guns loaded with Train and Defend and my full size with 147gr HST.

HST gets my vote. I am using 124gr Gold Dot, though, because I get it for free from my agency...

In testing I've found Gold Dots to be an exceptionally accurate round.  HST 124 is what I carry in all my 9mm, from short to long barrels.

I carry Federal Premium HST 9mm 124 Gr JHP in my H&K VP9SK and it shoots very accurately and reliably. You cannot go wrong with this ammo.

I think any of those are good.

I'm partial to 147 HST and Gold Dots.  124s too.

Yeah.

Lucky gunner gel test on 147+p hst show it over penetrated.

I would be perfectly content carrying any of the following:

147 HST  (std pressure)
147 Gold Dot
147 Winchester Ranger-T or Ranger-B (PDX1 is the same)

You will note what these all have in common.

Don't have the VP9sk, but the P30sk likes heavier loads best, and I assume that would translate over to the VP9sk.  Good results with both federal and speer 147.  Not to say that 124 would be bad.  I don't have any data to back it up but I just get the feeling +P is wasted powder in a subcompact barrel.  My primary subcompact load is the 150 grain federal HST.  Which reminds me I need to test drive it in the shield.

I use mostly 124 grain Gold Dots for my carry guns, but only after trying several brands to see what works best. Gold Dots seem especially solid shooting in most of my handguns. I use standard pressure ones, not +P, but that's just my preference.

As most experienced shooters know, a handgun can and often does shoot a particular load better than others. Testing a box or two of each of your listed loads is the only way to know for certain which will work best in your gun.

Congratulations on your gun. Shoot it in good health regardless of what ammo you're shooting in it.

OP,

I have two full size VP9s and love them. Be sure and let us know how you like yours after some range time with it. It's one of the possible guns on my future buy list.

I carry 147gr hst +p in all of my carry guns, they all eat it and run like champs.
