Good pistol? Never owned or shot a sig, but want a new handgun around the size of a glock 19. Any recommendations would help

As long as you don't get the DAK trigger I'm sure you'll love it

Good pistol yes.  I have a P228 and P226 both excellent pistols.

Link to my look on my P229R .40S&W (About half way down you will see my post)

I really enjoy my P229 in .40S&W. It's about the size of my G19 and has a much better trigger (Also came with a Short Reset Trigger)

I'd recommend trying one and seeing if you like it, especially if you can get a LEO trade in. (Cheap and barely used)

I also added it to my carry rotation, and like it as much as the 19.

Sig makes an excellent metal frame pistol. The P229 is a great example. I am not keen on their plastic pistols after having several issues with one but the 229 will last you a long time. I really liked the E2 grip for them as it was very comfortable to shoot/hold but some people don't care for them. If you do get an E2 grip, not very hard to install, but check youtube or with other members here who have installed them. There is a trick to prevent your trigger springs from getting mangled when putting them on and taking them off with a credit card or other flat piece of plastic.

A P229 DAK 9mm is at the top of my want list. I would be ok with a regular P229 DA/SA would be OK too. I really like the DAK though.

you are in the minority there.  But, it also means you can source a much cheaper gun as the DAK models ALWAYS sell for quite a bit less than the DA/SA versions.

One of the best combat pistols made today. The finest in Swiss/German engineering. Buy it and you will never look back.

A P229 in 9mm, M11A1 is a solid choice.

Great gun. I love mine. I have it in .357SIG with a P228 slide to swap over to 9MM. It was a DAK. Switched it to DA/SA. Could not get used to the DAK trigger.
