For me it'd be a 3" Model 65 or 66 in .357.

Have a 4" Model 19 and 2" Model 60 and they are both awesome but something in between would be perfect.

Caliber starting with "4", with a 4-5 inch barrel.

Smith's N frames are perfection.

For me, its really any older pre-lock S&W N frame revolver preferably in blue.

Remember the S&W Night Guard series?

A 3" K frame 366 Night Guard is my idea of the perfect revolver.

For shooters and OWB carry...N frames. For deep concealment, J frames.

I'm with these guys except I settled on the 44 Mag a long time ago. I have two 629 Mountain Guns and one Model 29 MG.

I also like the standard Redhawk, my current one is a 5 1/2 inch blue.

The S&W Model 69 is also a contender, but it has the Hillary Hole, if that bothers you.

Agree, ... or better still, a Model 58ish (or 57ish) N-frame in the aforesaid 10mm Magnum, which  - using moon clips  - could also shoot the 10mm AUTO and the puny .40S&W.

'Til then, this will have to suffice.

M58, .41 Magnum.

Purely for reference:
L = 10mm Magnum, shown with 220gn hard cast FN boolit; R = .41 Magnum factory "police load," with 210gn lead FN "thug thumper" boolit.  Either will leave a mark.

I love that and will copy it someday. I don't know why S&W (Colt and others too) are/were so hung up on 4" and 6" barrels? I think 5" is the perfect length for a full size revolver and 3" for a carry revolver.

A six inch barrel in a strong side belt holster requires me to nearly draw  my hand to nipple height to clear leather.   A cross draw, shoulder or chest holster works around that.

I carry on duty five days or more a week.  I'm stuck (personal decision) on strong side thumbsnap FBI tilt belt holsters with a handful of paddle holsters thrown in.

I was given a 60's era duty holster for a 6" k frame that I used with my k22 for range carry.   I felt like Barney fife.  The draw was awkward.

To each their own.

I'm an oddball, in many ways, but in .357 it would be my Dan Wesson 715. About the only thing I would change on it would be to erase the one big scratch it had on the 6" barrel shroud that it had before I bought it. Just a tad too deep to get rid of without a lot of work. In second, close behind is a duplicate of my old S&W 28, with a target hammer and trigger. A great gun.

There are no handguns that S&W currently makes, revolver or semi, that I'm even slightly interested in. Give me the old ones, pinned and recessed and extra hole free on the revolvers and solid SS for the semiautos. A Gen 3 is pretty damn great.

They also made the CS-1 in 4 inch.  I bought one of each way back when they first came up for sale.  They were $250 each then.

Yup, 3-4" is a great gun. A 3" 65 is a joy, as is a 4"19/66. 100 yd hits on a B27 are easy.

N-Frame .45 acp with moon clips.  5" barrel, adjustable sights with patridge front, light to medium contour barrel.

A Model 1917 hits all the points except for the adjustable sights.

If you've been to SHOT, the Robar booth has a 4" .357 that has been completely coated inside and out with their NP3 finish. Smoothest double action I've ever fired.

I'd love a 3" S&W model 60 done up the same way.

I would like a 4" .44 Special double action revolver with an exquisite DA pull and a tapered barrel (like the Mountain Gun Smith used to make).

I prefer adjustable sights (or easily replaceable front sight heights) to exactly match a load I find works best.

I would load the Special to match the bullet construction, but have little need for magnum velocities.

It would have grips tailored to fit my hand, preferably of a walnut or other wood with nice figure.

I would like a rust resistant finish - perhaps a hard matte chrome.  Something that doesn't scratch as easily as Stainless but as or more rust resistant.

I would want the cylinder chamfered for easier reloads, but not recessed.

The holster would probably be a combo crossdraw/strong side hip model (belt slots for either) made of good quality leather.

ETA: I wish Freedom Arms made a DA revolver!

For self defense my 686+ with Meprolite night sights is hard to beat. It's a good balance between power, weight and conceal-ability.

If we're talking about a general purpose handgun, my 6" Model 66 would be it.

Six shot, .357 magnum, with a real 3 inch barrel, round butt, and adjustable sights.  Probably on an L frame or GP100.  I'd like to see Ruger release something in their Match Champion line with a carry intended grip style and 3 inch barrel.  That would be a keeper.

Mine would be a Dan Wesson 715 with the DA trigger that my S&W 28 had. But since that's not possible in this universe, my DW 715 is just fine as is. I want another 28 though.
