Has anyone ever stripped and refinished their wood grips.

trying to find out if this is something that can be done with everyday wood stain or if it needs to be something a little more heavy duty

The hardest part is doing the prep/stripping in the checkered part. You pretty much need to be down to the bare wood. The ones I've tried it on I stained with standard MinWax light colored stuff then oiled them. They were a cheap set I got from CDNN and didn't come out very well. I bought some Nills.
