So like the title says I bought a 1911 on impulse today brand new. 5" barrel.  Be brutally honest guys. What should I expect as far as reliability and accuracy? I'm not expecting a match cup 1911. But did I waste my money?   Also any cheap mods/upgrades?   This is also my first full sized auto pistol.  Thanks guys.

Well it depends on what you paid.  RIA seems to get pretty good reviews if price was right.

i paid $660 with upgraded grips and a extra mag.   From what I've seen online I didn't get boned to hard.

Upgraded grips?  I thought they came with VZ's from the factory.

They had it in the display case with wood grips and sold it to me with some kind of plastic grips. (Edit they are vz grips) guess the guy behind the counter was trying to get away with a set of vz grips.

1911 Discussions is the subsection where you'll get the best answers. Maybe you could ask a mod to move it for you?

It looks like you overpaid a little bit. Buds has it for $552 shipped or plus 3% is you want to pay by CC. So you're at roughly $570 there, plus another $20 for the mag, add in a $25 average transfer fee and you are at $45 less than what you paid. Boned? No. Overpaid slightly? Yeah.

My next 1911 is probably going to be a RIA 45 of some sorts.

They do.  Hope you didn't pay extra for them.

You probably  have a good shooter.  Get some good ammo, add lots of lube and go shooting.  David

My RIA GI is very good quality firearm especially for the price of $300. It's actually my second one, I sold my first one, and regretted it, so I bought another. If you want a decent 1911 for a 1/5 the cost of a Kimber, you can't really go wrong.
