I have a 3.8" full size 9mm and a 4.5" .40S&W. both XDMs.
I'm starting to get into IPSC, where .40 scores better than 9mm outside of the A zone.
I found a decent deal on 4.5" bitone XDMs.

Should I get another 4.5" 40 (2 is 1 and 1 is none sort of thing), or make this one a 9mm (some say the .40 is dead)?

40 is not dead. Get what you want. I like the bi-tone look.

I think you're right.  I ordered another .40 today.

+1 on the 45 only because I have a 5.25 listed in the EE. I know it's a biased vote.

Honestly the .40 should serve you well!

I picked up the bitone yesterday:

I've had 9 mags for my other XDM .40 for a while.  I recently picked up 10 more at $16 each!!!  2 come with this gun + 4 extra mags promotion = 25 mags total for the 2 guns.  Time to divide them up into practice/competition and serious use/home defense.  I'm having some feeding problems on the last round on my other XDM 40, and I think it's mag related.  Time to isolate the problem mag and get rid of it.
