I've seen cylinders, hammers, and triggers colored multicolored.  What's the reason for it?  Looks?  Just wondering, I think it looks cool myself.

If you ever have to go to court it's pretty hard to describe a fuschia gun with primson slide and moonlight blue irridescent grips as an assault weapon.

I think it has to do with heat treating or tempering of the metal?? maybe I'm wrong, but now I want to know for sure.

I figure it's GOTTA have something to do with looks.  Cause it gives the appearance of not having been finished...imho

If you are talking about a single action, then the swirls and colors are because of the color case hardening, normally on the hammer and other small parts.
