I had picked up a $275 m64-5 2 years ago from some online store in GA. I'm glad I did. I wish I bought 5. Its for my son when he gets older. It's rough on the outside but smoooth on the inside after I polished all the moving parts.

I also cut half the hammer off and thinned out the trigger guard a bit.

That bead blast looks fantastic on that gun. And a big fan of those VZ's

The last 64 & 65 trade ins I saw in person at my LGS were ROUGH, and questionable on timing; yours looks like a slick semi-custom.  Well done!

Thank you. Fluid Industries in Beaumont, Texas did it for me. Great guys. They're nice grips. Comfortable but effective. Bought a black set for the 65.

The 65 was in much worse shape than the 64. The 65 isn't done yet. It's at the above mentioned place getting blasted. It wasn't awful, but has some pitting. The lockwork was awful. It was like someone bathed it in soap and water all it's life. Just chunked the trigger, hammer and rebound slide. The safety, cylinder latch and bolt were ok with some clean up.

Very nice. Well the good thing is, I don't see the 64 ever becoming so rare that they will super valuable. So re-finish however you want.

How does it shoot?  I've always heard good things about the Smythons, but I've never understood why someone didn't make aftermarket bbls for em if folks were going so far as to part out revolvers.

Python barrels weren't parted out. They were bought NIW from Colt. Bill Davis and Clarke Custom did make their own barrels, but they were mostly for PPC guns. The Python barrels were usually cheaper back then.

I haven't shot it yet, just picked it up yesterday. I remember seeing 3 inch python barrels on sale in Numrich's catalog for something like 69 dollars. Wish I had bought a bunch back then , but who knew

A couple of Christmas gifts to myself.

Unfortunately, I came down with COVID and haven’t had the chance to shoot them.

The 386Sc MountainLite below the 386PD is new to me.

The bottom Model 13-1 is new to me.

Thanks!

I’ve been carrying the PD (or was before getting COVID) while deer hunting in the cheap but adequate AIWB holster I found while I wait for a better replacement.

It really carries nicely, I almost “forget it’s there.”

I have a Lobo Gun Leather holster with the offset clip coming. With the significantly reduced overall package width, I think I’ll “forget it’s there.” The width reduction will be about 1/3” under the belt and 1/2” outside. Total width reduction about 1” when you add in my holster belt. Moving that lump off the cylinder should really make a difference.

I’m going to have to take up reloading for the 38/357. I don’t like reloading but factory selections are not adequate at the moment and I don’t see that changing soon.

In the meantime, I’m loading Buffalo Bore +P 158gr SWCHP GC.

These two S&W are what would be considered gentleman's revolvers since they're small framed five-shot .38s. But they aren't. 38 Special, oh no, these are in .38 S&W. A cartridge dating back to 1877.

The top-break is a S&W .38 Double Action 2nd Model and the solid frame is a S&W Model 33-1 .38 Regulation Police, built on the J-Frame.

Reloading is vastly different, yet very simple for both.

Size wise, the grip of the top-break is slightly shorter than the solid frame but overall length from the back of the frames to the end of the barrels is about the same.

Both are fixed iron sights. Nothing is adjustable.

I don't shoot either often, but I do shoot them and have carried both in the past. They're comfortable and the .38 S&W, while a slouch compared to modern defense loads, is not completely useless. A 145gr .361 lead slug traveling just under 700fps will still ruin someone's day with a good "T-Box" hit.

The .38 S&W has a history of putting bad guy six feet under. It served as a police duty cartridge in the US prior to WWI and served the British Armed Forces and it Colonies from the 1920s all the way to the 1960s and beyond in some far flung locations that used to be under the Union Jack.

One such famous use of the .38 S&W was by Colonel Rex Applegate himself. After WWII, Col. Applegate was down in Mexico working as a contractor to train and modernize the Mexican Armed Forces. While down there in 1950, he and a Mexican Army Officer were attack by a machete wielding loon. The Colonel was concealed carrying a S&W Top-Break Lemon Squeezer in .38 S&W and plugged the attacker. All while the Mexican Army Officer was still fumbling, trying to draw his 1911 from a flap holster.

All in all, fun little guns and I can't wait until brass, powder, and primers become affordable again. I have about 300 rounds left. But I want more.

Picked up a 1964-vintage nickeled 28-2 off GB.

Original Magna grips were a bit scarred, the finish was dull and cloudy, and there were a pair of pimp-tastic pearl grips in the box with it.

A couple of hours with some Mother's Polish, some new wood...and it looks much better.

Those look awesome!! Well done.

Every once in awhile I get the urge to do that to my 629 V-Comp but quickly talk myself out of it.  I'm getting the itch right now lol.  My Blackhawk Bisley convertible is a candidate though.  I don't know how it work on the rollmarked cylinder though.

This was my woods carry set up for a while. 4" 686-2 with Craig Spegel grips. I forget what wood i got him to use but i need to get a few more sets made. I dont know if some one worked over the trigger but it is AMAZING! The single action has got to be just a few pounds with zero creep.
