Cross posted to the S&W Revolver pic thread:

I just received my S&W factory letters.

1. 1st Change M&P .38 Spl 119,xxx. Right on the tail end of that run.

2. 3rd Change M&P .38 Spl 198,xxx. Interesting that this says it was sent on to Birmingham England, but it does not have any UK proofs or an import mark

3. Victory Model M&P .38 Spl. V128,xxx U.S. Navy marked. Sent to the US Navy, Oakland CA on Oct 19, 1942.

That's just begging for a Tyler T or BK grip, or an old Pachmeyr filler grip.

Yes. Just print out the form and mail it in with as much information as you have on the gun in question and the fee. It took a few months, but the letters will arrive.

A couple of S&W Model 38s with custom grips.  It was a nice day and took them out to put a few rounds on paper.  Just finished cleaning them up and thought I would take a few pictures.

Another M1905 3rd Change M&P Hand Ejector came my way. This one is a 4-inch .38 Special and in the 231,xxx range, so I estimate it roughly a 1914 to 1915 production example, but I won't know until I get my SWHF factory letter on it. Grips are original and still have the hand-written in pencil serial number on the underside of the grip panel.

You could barely get the cylinder to swing open when I first got it, but after removing the crane arm, I found the hole was filled with congealed oil or cosmoline. It works smoothly now after cleaning. The action is magnificent on this, like all of the other early Smiths I have handled.

Not quite Skeeter's load but it's had a steady diet of Power Pistol pushing a 240gr swc at 900fps. Close to 900rds through it with no ill effects

And I picked this up at a gun show Saturday from a private dealer. Ruger Vaquero (my 2nd) in .45 Colt. The guy had 2, the other in .357 Magnum so I had a hard time deciding since I handload both and have plenty of ammo for both, but in the end the larger caliber won out.

I've posted this before but my 629-2 Mountain "Revolver" is my all time favorite firearm.

Another one you might take a look at is the Model 69.  I liked the 4 inch so well that I bought a 2 3/4 inch too.

Top to bottom
686+ Mountain Gun
629 Mountain Revolver
629 Mountain Gun (spare, just in case)

Model 69 4 1/4 inch

Model 69 2 3/4 inch

It fits perfect in an old US made Bianchi holster for a 2 1/2 in model 19
Camera angle makes the grip look long

I like the idea of the 69, but the reviews of major issues scared me away. It definitely checks all of my boxes, so I'll probably pick one up after production resumes and see what I get.

Beautiful

Id totally carry that.

My 4" M64 gets 1000fps with 158gr and 5.7gr be-86. I bet you'd almost get 1100 in a 5" barrel.

Ive always suspected those are really pleasant shooters, they look to have a front heavy balance, a low bore axis and I like western style grip panels like that.
