Is it O.K. to round the front edge of the cylinder on my .357 carry gun? I've seen this done on larger guns, but how much is too much? It's a Taurus 605, in case anyone was about to have a stroke.

Come on, I know I'm not the only do it yourselfer here, is this safe to do?

What is the advantage of doing this? I've seen it also, but never considered it a needed mod.

Smooths the sharp front edge of the cylinder. Makes it easier to holster.

It's not really an issue, unless you round it so much that it allows excess gas to escape from the rear of the barrel.

In that case, you can start getting gas, powder particles and even bullet metal blown back toward you.

In short, beveling the front of the cylinder slightly is OK, but don't take it too far.
