He called his a 649, but that would be the .357 version, right?   I can't really tell by looking which it is.   Maybe someone else can say.


Interesting read.  I didn't know the guy that got shot in Vietnam was an assassin.   That was an interesting tidbit.

Original 649s were all stainless steel, .38spls. Later, they were beefed up and chambered in .357 Mag.

It looks to me like the gun in the Viet Nam photo and the movie stills is a Centennial.
Enclosed hammer.
Not the shrouded hammer like his.

I think the author should check his facts.

General Loan's pistol was his personally owned S&W Model 38. Shrouded, not enclosed.

This shows it a little better.  I can see in the small pic it looks like a centennial, but some of us have seen that pic before, bigger and know it's a bodyguard.

In his pictures from The Shield, the gun looks like a 642 Centennial not a shrouded 638.
