i am torn between the two of them. is the ssr worth the extra money and losing a round of capacity.
wish they made a ssr in 7, then there would be no hesitation

I would do the 686+ if I was going to do a 686 at all.  The reason the SSR is not a 7 shot is the SSR was made for the old IDPA SSR (Stock Service Revolver) division.  IDPA does not allow the 7 and 8 shot revolver to compete.

For a street gun, go for the seven rounds. If it's purely a competition revolver, get a S&W M67. The M67 has less overall frame and cylinder mass, allowing faster transitions between targets and less pull weight in double action.

I did not know that the gun was design for competition use. I always thought the slab slide barrel looked really good on it.

Yeah the S&W 686 SSR and the Ruger GP100 Match Champion we both sort of designed for IDPA's SSR division.

That said real men shoot a fixed sight revolver in IDPA.

I bought an SSR--great gun!
I sent it to the S&W pro shop & had them install & time a 7 shot cylinder.
The front & rear sights were sent to Tool Tech for tritium.

Wow! Spendy, but worth every penny!

I don't know how to post pics & only have a cell phone to do pics.

Sorry--I also put a "plug" in the Hillary Hole. The Tool Tech sights are great, S&W's work is great--if you don't mind spending coin, it's well worth it.

I would stick with six shot actually- much easier to find speedloaders and you have more options as to types.

I never liked the look of the slab sided revolvers.

I do like the 7 shot 2 1/2" 686+ for concealed carry, with a compact grip and tritium sights:
