I have a couple of the late model S&W 629's with the newer S&W rubber grip I think by Houge. I was looking on Amazon the other day and saw some real wood grips for the newer Round Butt N frame guns that look like the original target grips from the past. So, I ordered a pair to see. DAM !!!!!!  they look and fit and feel just like the original target grips from long ago.  It heels like my S&W 29 and he RB fit on the back is fantastic. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY !!! Going on line and ordering a couple more for later purchases for a few  more N frame 29's/

You can find them on Amazon under N Frame grips. A company called Handicraft Grips. Run around $66

They don't seem to be any cheaper than Altamont? Why the excitement?

Wood grips are for showing, rubber grips are for shooting.  Square butts are not nice on women or revolvers, round butts all the way.

The right wood grips are just as nice to shoot as rubber and look better as well. The factory K frame targets on my Model 19-2 are quite comfortable when shooting 158gr magnums.

I found some old Sile grips that are awesome on my 640-1 .357 J frames. I like them so much I got another set for my Model 36. They are wider than most factory and aftermarket grips which spreads the recoil across more of the palm and let me get all three fingers on, which aids in stability. +P .38's are easy to shoot and .357 Magnum, while stout, is not painful.

This was my first thought as well.

Altamont has a ton of options for wood, checkering, medallions, laser engraved logos, etc. for about the same price, and are likely better quality.
