I really want a S&W 242, I don't think I have ever seen one in person though. It seems a shame that they only chambered it in 38 instead of .357.

Definitely a cool little oddball gun. Wonder how much smaller they really are compared to a 327?

I don't think I would want to shoot one in 357. I am assuming they were made well before all their scandium guns. I imagine they weren't big sellers. Then again I never understood the need for the 340/360 over a 642/637. I would rather have a 342. I have no love for the magnums in the little lightweight guns.

I would prefer a 342 as well.

I guess would I would really like to see is an updated model with Scandium frame and .357 chambers. I was always under the impression that J frame .357 recoil was so bad because the grips were so darn small. I would imagine you could get a better purchase on the 242.

ETA- I wouldn't want to shoot hot .357s out of it necessarily, but mild 158s with a bit more poop behind them than the FBI 38 load would be ideal for me

I would love to own a hump back, except they are exspensive if you can find one. I own both the 342 and 340, I prefer the 342 more.

The 242 is one of my top 3 Holy Grail guns.  I do have a 386 SC/S which is the same sized gun. It has never been shot but I dont really expect full power magnums to be all that bad.  I shoot them in slightly heavier, but smaller, 640's without much of an issue.

The sights on the 386 just look to spacey for me. I guess what I would want is a 381!

ETA- I was unaware of the 386 Night Guard. The search begins!
