Is it ok to use plated bullets in a DE .44? I picked up one and need to load up some round for it. Thanks

I have not had any issues running plated through my gun.

The Alliant Book shows that 11.8 grains of Unique will give 1255 FPS with a 240 grain bullet. Would this be enough to cycle the action.

I ordered some of these: 44-240 RNFP

I am also going to try Hornady HP XTP® .44 240-Grain Bullets with Hodgdon H110 powder. Shows 20.5 grains would give 1342 FPS.

Any tips or recommendations?

I have not tried Unique, but I would be surprised if it would cycle the gun. You typically need something with a slower burn rate to give a long enough impulse to cycle the Desert Eagle.

H110 works very well (and makes a really good fireball!  )  Other powders that I have found to work well are AA#9 and Vhit N110.

And some medium burn rate powders I've tried that did not work well were Blue Dot, HS-7, and N350.

That is below the starting load in any of my books. Speer #12, Hornady 4th ed, Sierra 5th ed, and Hodgdon's Website all show 240 gr jacketed loads somewhere around 21 gr, up to almost 25 gr of H110.

I use 24.7 gr H110 with a 240 gr XTP, which gives me 1485 fps from my Desert Eagle. Since that's at the top end of the load range, you would want to work up to it.

Thanks guys. Yeah I don't know if Unique will work with the DE. I have so much though I thought I would ask.

Searching the Desert Eagle Forum there is a guy that says "11.5 grains with 240grain coated flat nose lead projectile, not cast lead Cycles flawlessly in my desert eagle. 10.5grains did not cycle."

So maybe it will work???

Have nearly 700 rounds thru my first DE 44 Mag. Using 19 -19.6 Gr Accurate number 9 and getting very good reliability and excellent accuracy with 180-240 gr XTP bullets.
Dont use any other powder ..and this load is at the lower end but has plenty of power .
Might try using lated bullets since there would be significant savings over the jacketed.
