I'm curious what ammo everyone is shooting for target practice and what you're using to carry.

Post any good deals too!

Winchester white box 115 FMJ, Hornady 115 XTPs for carry. I carry a Glock 43 for daily carry mostly and shoot a Glock 17 a lot.

I reload but if I bought factory ammo it would be the aluminum case 9mm from Walmart that's $10/box. Or whatever is cheaper than that online taking into account shipping cost. I'm not picky on plinking ammo

For defense gold dots HST, or Ranger

147 gr bonded HP's for carry, and a variety of 115 gr, 124 gr and 147 gr fmjs for shooting

get a practice round that matches your carry load.  for example, I carry 147gt HST and practice with 147gr FMJ

I agree.  I carry P9HST2 and practice with AE9FP.  According to Federal, the energy and velocity are identical.

For my P320 compact and Glock 19, I use 9mm Perfecta or Winchester white box from Walmart for practice. 147 HST or 124+p Gold Dot for carry.

Blazer brass 124gr for my 9's and 230gr for my .45 for plinking
I also like the Lawman 124 and .45 but it's always  a buck a box more so I just grab the blazer
unless the lawman is on sale.
JHP I use Federal HST for all of my JHP needs.

Speer Lawman 124 gr and Federal aluminum for practice.  Speer 124 gr GD or Fed 124 HST for carry.

Also Speer Lawman 124gr for practice. However we use Speer Gold Dot 147gr for the carry/night stand guns. Occasionally some PMC 115 grain for practice as well.

Most any 115 grain cheap stuff for blasting (and a shit ton of my own reloads).

124gr +P Gold Dots
147gr HST in both standard and +P flavor

Tulammo and brown bear for practice.  I carry 147gr HST's.

124g Blazer or Geco, and 124g/147g HST.

Most of my practice ammo is reloads. If not reloads then whatever I can get at the local pawnshop that has been "traded in"--I get this ammo nearly for free, a few dollars a box...... Failing that I will order some decent ammo in- S&B, Blazer Brass, Magtech, Fiochhi- whatever is available at a reasonable price.

For street use, Federal 147 HST.

Like everyone else did, Blazer brass or WWB for blasting. I think I'm the only one using Federal Tactical Bonded 135g +P so far.
Link Posted: 3/22/2017 5:26:14 AM EDT
[#20]
Blazer brass 124gr for range use, or I'll buy the WWB my local gun range carries if I forget to take my own to the range.

124gr Gold Dots or HST's for carry, most likely the HST's due to price, it's a just-as-well performing round that's around $2-$4 cheaper per $50.

For range fodder I require it to be brass cased, boxer primed, and inexpensive.  Carry ammo is 124gr HST or Gold Dot.

WWB or Federal/Blazer for plinking ammo.

147 HST +P

For 9mm I usually shoot 124gr Blazer. For carry, Corbon DPX or Underwood 147gr XTP +P

For .357 sig I shoot 125gr Speer TMJ, and carry Underwood 125gr Gold Dots

For 10mm, I usually practice with Underwood 200gr FMJ and carry Underwood 115gr XTreme Defender. I'll probably switch to Underwood 200gr XTP soon though.

I use my own reloads for blasting that I can make for cheap and get better results than any cheap yet more expensive than my loads steel fodder. I carry 147 HST's in my VP9 and 150 HST's in my Shield.

In 9mm I use Blazer aluminum or Blazer Brass for the range. I carry Winchester Ranger T 127 gr +P+ in my Glock 19.

In my favorite caliber -357 Sig- I use UMC for range and carry Winchester 125 gr Ranger T in my Sig 320, G32 & G31.

I've used anything under ten a box for practice ammo, and recently prices are great.  my go to used to be silver bear but now magtech is same price.  Never had a single problem.

Carry ammo has been the old nypd load, 124gr +p gdhp, but I'm switching to a tamer round soon.

WWB for classes, IDPA,and range time.  124 gold dots or HST for carry/HD mags

I find it very interesting that a lot of posters here practice with a different weight and velocity round than what they carry.  I find that 115 gr have a different point of impact from 147 gr rounds, and +p in the same weight have a different point of impact from standard pressure.

Ideally I would like to carry a 115 or 124 grain standard pressure load so I could practice with cheap ammo, but since I have a large amount of RA9T and know it is good to go across the performance spectrum I have to pay a bit of a premium for 147 gr FMJ practice ammo.

I don't see enough of a difference to give it a second thought.

The cheap 115 grain ammo shoots 2-3 inches lower at 25 yards compared to my EDC 147+p HST.

I have a stock of all kinds of plinking ammo from manufacturers both foreign and domestic. I stay away from reloads with the exception of Miwall Corp.

My SD ammo is and always will be Federal's 9BPLE with Winchester's 115+P+ as backup. I doubt that I'll ever have to rely on the Win ammo as I still have 1200 of the 9BPLE.

Whatever 9mm I can buy cheap that is not steel cased for practice. Winchester Ranger usually for carry.

Practice - Whatever is cheapest in bulk at the time.  My last purchase was two cases of Wolf WPA for $149 each @ SGAmmo.  I'm about to order two more cases this month, and looks like it will be WPA again.  Magtech brass is only $20 more per case, but I care nothing about reloading 9mm.

Carry - Hornady Critical Duty 135gr +P, This is my department issued load, and is what I must carry on and off duty.  If I were selecting the ammo myself I would have no problem with the Critical Duty, Federal HST 147gr, or Gold Dot 147gr.
