Scored at a local gun show. I had never seen a .45 with the frame decocker and had only seen photos of the 10mm guns. I had to have it. Made only one year 1991. Model 4536

Nice score. I’ve only seen the 4.25” barrel with the de-cocker before.

Thanks. I had spent so much money on three other Smiths, I lowballed the hell out of this one and got it for $425 OTD. I paid almost as much for a 1977 vintage Model 39-2

Seems there was a recall on those models-1026, 1076, 4526, 4536, 4576, 5924, 5926, 6924 and 6926
RECALL: Models affected have frame mounted decocking levers.
I checked and mine has been serviced. Two dimples struck beneath the decocker when serviced.

Speaking of the little guys, a shop back in NC had a 4556 (DAO) in the case collecting dust in the 2000 time frame.  He finally went out of business and I don't think it ever sold.  He was asking a high price, too much for me to even consider (and I had a 4546 & 4586 to match).

You did good on the negotiations to pick it up for that price.

Nice rare & vintage .45 from S&W

Nice snag!  I've only ever seen one of those. It's a 'chopped' (Officers) decocking variant of the 4576.

I've got a 10mm 1076 and a .45 4566, but would love to score one of the smaller chopped 'Smith 3rd Gen autos,  like a Chiefs Special. S&W did a run of those in 9mm, .40, and .45 I believe.
