I did not know what it was, and am still not 100%
But the general consensus is that I got a good price.

Some think a pre model 10 from the 50's?

Where the model is usually on a Smith it just says "R"

Pre 57 mod 10....  you did good.  I can look it up for you in the standard catalog of S&W if you PM me the serial #.

Nice looking revolver, I think you did ok at $400!

Be sure and get Clemenza to put that special tape on the grip and trigger.  Very nice!

I've seen them for about that after additional costs of Gunbroker.

Needs more Tyler T-Grip.

I imagine those grips are worth quite a bit by themselves.

OP, I've got a similar one but probably not as old as yours.

If you really want to have some fun with this gun, shoot it with some wadcutter ammo. If you do your part, the gun is capable of some amazing accuracy for such a short bbl. Not to mention the wadcutters are super light loads & won't worry the gun in any way.

Nice score for you, sir!

Yup. That's a beautiful piece you've got there OP, and at a great price.
What I'd do is get some aftermarket stocks and put the original ones away, if you're gonna make it a shooter.
I'm in the market for a nice round butt because I've got a hankerin' for stag stocks lately. Maybe put a Tyler T-grip on it too.

I shot it last night. Nice little shooter if I do my part.

Actually, I believe Michael Corleoone uses a Model 36, which was anachronistic set in 1948 - the Chief's Special being first introduced in 1950. But you've got yourself a classic revolver there, and got a good deal, too.

Nice score. I always liked the look of those, full size grip with a little snub nose. Cool gun.

Looks refinished but still a nice gun.
