Considering buying a new Sig220 in 45ACP as home defense and sunday afternoon plinker and might see a little combat style pistol competition Want good quality and above all accuracy. Any input would be much appreciated.... Thanks!

I have a fair amount of experience with these guns, both as my personal weapons and in training. They are excellent pistols, and while they...like all designs...have their little "quirks", they are extremely accurate, very reliable and prone to very few problems if well maintained. New, stainless 7rd. magazines seem to be better quality than the older ones, but my old ones also work fine. Sig stands strongly behind their products and, while they do not have the extensive factory support system of, say, Beretta or Glock, they have improved greatly in this area. Besides, you are not likely to need much support for a Sig...apart from more ammo.

My SIG P220 is one of the most reliable and accurate .45's I own. Occassionally, you'll hear about a quirky one with feeding problems, but the factory is good about fixing or replacing anything. I think all SIGs are outstanding handguns.

The only thing I don't care for is the price of the mags.

I got my first Sig last Thanksgiving. Love it. Have probably put 400 thru it never have I had a problem. All types of ammo (no LRB though). Mags you can get for as low as $25 from shows. These are orig factory mags too.

I have carried a p220 on duty for more years than I would like to remenber, never had any problemes.Have close to 12,000 rounds fired through it .Just keep it clean.

Shot two mags out of one last Sat. Very controllable, and accurate. DA trigger isnt for shit, but SA is not bad. Sights are fast too. Get some rubber hogue grips, they are swet.

I've been playing around with a Sig 226 a lot lately. Nice grip angle on it, but Im going to go with the G21. I like those little 225s though. First 9mm I ever shot.

P220 purchased NIB 1987.

Carried for years. Its big and I dont carry it as often.

Thousand and thousand of rounds down range. It will shoot anything I have fed it. Reloads to hollow points.

I shoot IPSC and IDPA with it and the first shot D/A is right on. The reset on the S/A is a little slow due to the length of travel but unless you are shooting with the big boys I doubt anyone would notice or care.

The phrase "Finest combat handgun in the world " has been stated by people who live and die by this gun. Not me of course.

Ok laugh meters off and flame guns aside. I have a 220 in 9mm. It was my first Sig and from that time on I've loved them. A new 220 in .45 is my next weapon to aquire, but not last.

I have had my 220 for over 8 yrs. box stock most accurate .45 ever need no modification. Will beat most 1911 out of the box. I have been shooting competatively and I am thinking of using the p220 for sinle stack production class. In fact just bout 6@10 rnd clips from cdnn today. Believe me its worth every penny. I too have the heavily modified 1911 and love them but that another story. Dont compare apples and oranges.

I've owned 8 different 1911s(Kimbers, SA, Colt, Norinco), 1 Glock 21, 2 Ruger P90s, the P220 is the best .45 I've ever had.

I have also owned a P220 for years with no alteration. I tried Eagle grips made of wood and I didn't care for them. I went back to the factory grips. Is there anything negative? Yes, Sigs lead up in a hurry. What is the solution? Avoid lead bullets. The P220 will get you through the night and give you years of fun shooting. Regards, Richard

Here comes the one negative P220 post. I have an older P220. It is NOT a reliable pistol. I have replaced the extractor and recoil spring (it had extraction probs) but it still refuses to reliably feed LSWC's that my M1911 gobbles right up. I get rounds that either nosedive or hang up on the side of the chamber. Needless to say I dont have alot of confidence in this pistol. I've tried new mags and everything else I can think of to no avail. If I could trade it off and not get raped I would. I'm going to try some FMJ ammo and see if it'll feed that.

I have owned so many pistols I cant even remember them all. But the biggies that stand out are my Kimber Gold Match, Springfield loaded, Glock 20, Kimber Eclipse, Colt Gold Cup and I could go on. The best pistol I have ever owned is the Sig 220ST. I liked it so much I bought 2 just in case they stop making them. They both are by far the most reliable 45's I have owned, and the most accurate.
I think now im going to buy the alloy 220, even though I tend to like the heavier type pistols im going to try it and see if they compare to the ST models.

Great gun, very accurate, didn't like the double action pull but with practice that shouldn't be a problem.

I have sold/owned Sig Sauer handguns for over 10 years. No problems. No unsatisfied customers. Being a dealer, I have seen them all, and shot them all. Not much out there can compare to the Sig Sauer line of products!

I have an all-stainless 220. It is way more accurate than I am and it has never malfunctioned in any way. Function was flawless from the first shot--straight out of the box with no cleaning--through the thousand or so rounds I've put through it. I wish I could say the same about my 1911-type 45s. I have four Sigs in various calibers, and I'd take a Sig over anything else any day.

I have no real complaints with mine, but I do find that I shoot more accurately with my Kimber. Might be just that I'm more familiar with the way the Kimber shoots.

Gee, guess I'd better go practice with the SIG!
