Hi there,

I have a question regarding the P229 9mm. It states on SIG's website that the magazine capacity for 9mm is either 10 or 15.

Since when did they create 15-round 9mm magazine for the P229? I thought the P229 9mm was 13+1? Is this a new magazine by SIG?

Please enlight this n00b, thank you!

Mecgar is the OEM manufacturer for sig mags.

Mecgars 228 or 229 hold 15 9mm rounds

Mecgar 226 hold 17 9mm rounds

Do these 15-round 9mm magazines for the P229 stick out?

no, flush

Typo, nothing more.

The mags that SIG sells are made by MecGar, but they are 13 rounders. MecGar isnt allowed to sell 13 rd 9mm P228/229 or 15rd P226 mags anymore, because they are now under contract with SIG. The extended capacity mags(15rd P228/229 and 17rd P226) are allowed to be sold by MecGar.

Its confusing as hell sometimes.

So do they or do they not sit flush with the mag well?

Thanks.

The MecGar "extended" capacity mags (15rds.) will indeed fit flush with the frame. These mags do not come from SIG Sauer. They come from a MecGar mag distributor.

To add to the confusion, if you want 17 rounds, you can take a MecGar P226 extended capacity (17rd) mag, add a Freeds X-Grip grip extender, and you have a neat lil 17 rd +1 round carry piece.

Excuse my dumbness but what does "flush" mean? Thanks.

"Flush fit" means it doesnt stick out from the bottom.

Thanks. Are they as reliable as the original mags?

Wow, the SIG P229 9mm can hold 15+1 rounds without sticking out? Impressive! I'd take it over the P226 9mm.

The "magic" is all in the follower. The magazines are identical between Sig Factory and Mec-Gar except for the follower. The smaller follower, that Mec-Gar owns the patent for, allows for 2 more rounds. Mec-Gar does make most of the current production Sig factory magazines.

The spring is also different, so it colapses inside the follwer, where as on a standard capacity mag, the spring collapses out side of the follower.

For the most part. I dont use the extended capacity, 17rd mags, for my P226, after numerous failures to lock the slide back, when I put them through a mini torture test at The Hun Farm. There really werent any feeding issues though. I just figured if there's a part on my handgun that makes the slide lock back, I might as well us it.
