I think it's the best handgun I've ever owned. It goes with me everywhere. Thirty rounds of pure reliability and accuracy whenever it's called upon.

Got a 228 and a 229. Both great guns. So good in fact that my wife has decided that the 228 is hers even though I had both before we even got married.
But she still let's me shoot it. |
My primary carry weapon. I like the balance better than the 229, and I shoot it way better than my Glocks.
It should be 31 rounds btw - Don't forget your first friend in the chamber! |
Do you all use Sparks VM11's or what other brand of holster?
Don't currently own one, but looking. Need something to keep my P220 and P239 company. They don't get along well with my XD9. |
Go get that baby dirty! |

Have one. 1991 vintage. Slide faded to the greyish color older SIGs seem to acquire. Night sites that still work. Slide/frame hookup is kind of loose, but barrel/slide locks up tight.
Makes a nice companion for the Beretta. And Glock. Smith. Walther. Ruger. etc No H & K tho. Had a P7 but sold it when the price of those things went thru the roof. |

I found a NIB 228 Hi Viz at a pawn shop last week for $600 including tax. I thought it was a good deal.
Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I did put some nite sights on it this weekend since I couldn't stand that Hi Viz front sight. |
You did very good! Congrats. |
Now that they have been Duracoated I love both my 226 and my 228. They feel natural in my hand and are very pointable/easy to get on target.
Just picked up my 228 last weekend. Longest 10 day wait since my first gun purchase.
Picked it up from a local guy for $475, looks almost brand new. It was built in 95. I'm going to put some rounds through it tomorrow! I cant wait. |

228 & 225, the latter goes behind the belt REAL easy. I have a steady supply of factory LEO mags, they are real easy to get...(I noticed a lot of 10 rounders in the pics) Carry load is a handloaded, yes they are taper crimped and sealed with pre and post tumble and select brass, hornady 115XTP with 6gr Unique. A little dirty at the range, but 100% reliable and 1210fps out of the 228. The load folds 75-150lb hogs when you screw one in behind the ear...I've tried them all over the years, and the SIG "Gits er Done"

Length of pull is too short for my big hands. An accurate gun, but harder for me to shoot than the 220 or most others.
I traded it for a M15T. |

I had to settle for a 229 9mm, can't find 228's new anymore. It's ok, but a bit on the heavy side.
I've got a full factory nickle that I've had for quite awhile. but I shoot the blue one at least once a week.

I like mine so much I had to get it once again.
1 nite sites + 1 regular = 1 happy me |

OK think I found one (A P228) - Local gun shop, all German made, marked made in Germany on slide), excellent condition, has P226 15 rnd mags with exenders, $495.
Oh it has the blackened stainless slide, trijicon night sights (probably expired). Very clean, looks like it was hardly shot at all. I really like it. Yea or nay? |
+ 1 here. Just retired after 15 years of service. I'm trying to love my new glock 19 as much as I loved my 228...
I got one for my wife a few years back for home defense. Wish I'd picked another one up for me! |
I like the 228 as well, but I don't think they are in any way in short supply.
Me too and I love it! |

Well went and put money down on that West German P228 I was looking at in the local shop. In excellent shape, with the original case, documentation and grips, two factory mags.
And I blame it on all of YOU! |

How can you say that when they are no longer listed on Sigs US website. If they are not in short supply now they will be. AFAIK they are no longer imported for sale the US. They are still listed on Sig's German website for sale to europe and other markets. Once dealer's supplies of new P228s run out - that's it. I have scoured the web and everyone seems to be out of stock. I put money down on a good used one - but it looks like the P228 is discontinued for the US market. Instead they are now marketing a lot of gaudy two-tone and fancy wood grip stuff (as well as some cool Railed models and new models like the "P220 Carry".) It seems the P228 is no longer available for the US civilian market. Glad I got mine. |

Mine was born in 89 and is one smooth shooter. It has who knows how many rounds through it and it has never malfunctioned. It is definitely my favorite handgun in the safe. I like it so much it stays in the safe all the time now, I refuse to put it in a situation where I could lose it. I've got a G27 to carry around now, I consider it disposable.
