I am possibly working a trade for a new P320 sub compact. My question is will the slide of the sub compact fit a compact frame if I wanted to swap it out or am I doing it backwards?

Your're doing it backwards. The compact slide will fit on the sc frame. There is no reason, nor would it make any sense to put the sc slide on a compact frame.

The subcompact slide would work on a compact frame, but I believe the grip frame dust cover will extend beyond the end of the slide.

Barrel length is .3" different, so not a monster overhang... but there would likely be some.

I cut the front of a compact frame so it would be flush, and put on my subcompact, works great. Its about a perfect balance setup for me.

I got 3 different color carry and 3 different color compact frames with my p320... might need to chop one down, that would be a good size for carry.
