What is the ammo that these pistols like the best? Has anyone ever used Federal Gold Medal?

My 225 and 226 (both W. German, circa mid 1980's) feed everything I every tried.
What are you looking for?  Best accuracy or defense ammo or just plinking ammo?  Federal Gold Medal Match is usually very accurate, but it's expensive just to plink with.
You might want to try some Sellier & Bellot or Hertinberger if you can find it.
Good luck and good shooting. Please let us know how things progress.

For general practice or some heavy papertarget killing I use 115gr FMJ Sellier&Bellot in my P226 (W.Germany made - 1995) without any problem. They work equally fine in my P228 (W.Germany - 1994).
My current homedefense load is a 115gr Winchester Silvertip. But I plan on getting some 124gr rounds both for rangepractice & homedefense.

So far I haven't found anything that SiGs don't like with the exception of the heavily lacqured ones like Wolf (the coating tends to build up over time) and the steel jacketed Blazers. I use S&B as my practice ammo and Gold Dots as carry in all but the 230. In the 230 I usually carry the CorBon or Triton 380 +P.

I have never had a problem with any ammo in my 226.  I currently use 147gr. Black Talon (original) in it now.

What's best, in my opinion, is whatever you practice with and shoot most often.  Try a variety of loads and choose.
