I was told years ago that it wasn't advisable, especially with lead bullets;which quickly lead up the OEM rifling.

Also that Glock Barrels weren't fully supported and kabooms can happen.

I have an aftermarket barrel I use for reloads to play it safe.

Gen 4 G19.  I shoot reloads all the time.  They are jacketed, but still I haven't had any problems after thousands of rounds.

I shoot jacketed and plated all the time. Just get an aftermarket barrel if you're going to shoot lead.

Yes

Lead is fine as long as you brush it frequently. However, plated bullets are so cheap there is no reason to shoot lead.

Gen3 G34 and a G43.

I shoot lead and plated reloads. 147gr both, @ ~875fps. I load my magazines 1 plated then 2 lead, with two plated at the bottom.

Yes, lead as well.

Thousands of rounds of jacketed reloads.

And a few Elmer Kieth 158gr cast semi-wadcutters just to see if I could. They made cool octagonal holes in paper.

Why do you think the kabooms happened, especially with certain Glocks?

[#8]
I've shot thousands of rounds through my Gen 3 Glocks, and that includes various 1k cases of reloads from local companies and steel cased without major issue. I don't shoot reloads anymore though because I've had many rounds that just wont fire after 3 good primer strikes and because I can get factory brass cased ammo like Magtech or Brown Bear for much cheaper and more reliable performance. In fact I seem to shoot tighter groups with Brown Bear than with Magtech or any brass cased factory 9mm I've tried.

I've had one squib load, and that was from a Remington UMC bulk value pack years ago. Remington is garbage in general, and I haven't touched UMC since.

User negligence when using reloads (overcharge, bullet setback, failure to clean bore when using lead, etc...)

Most of the documented KB incidents I have seen (where user negligence was not involved) were in early .40 S&W guns with the unsupported chamber.

I shoot plated and jacketed reloads through my G19 all the time. Have used lead but I don't like lead in semi autos.

To put it simply an out of spec overcharged reload or other issue that causes dramatic rise in chamber pressure is likely to blown up any gun! You here about it more in glocks because they are so popular.
A properly assembled within pressure spec load will never hurt a glock. Kabooms happen because people produce a bad out of spec or overcharged reload not because of the type bullet type or construction or any inherent problem with the glock design

I shoot reloads in my Glocks almost exclusively. I don't shoot soft cast lead but I won't hesitate to shoot hardcast lead.

Tens of thousands of rounds of coated lead down my OEM barrels.  Zero problems.

I shoot lead reloads through my g22 40sw factory barrel. No issues so far.

G19,17,23 & 22.

All get reloads of plated (mainly) and jacketed.

Thousands fired and no issues

I've shot thousands of jacketed reloads through my glock 34, 17, and 19 all gen 4. Haven't shot lead though.

Of course.  But I use plated bullets.

Yep .

Lead through my 17 .

Clean it when you do .

Cheap and you can work up a nice load .

I can run hundreds of rounds of rather warm coated 9 & 45 through my stock glocks at a time. The only residue left in the bbl can be cleaned with one swipe of lead remover

Probably shot 100K worth of plated/cmj/fmj's relaods thru my Glocks over the years.

Don't shoot lead at all.

When I was a kid, my dad made soft cast bullets and used them to load 45ACP for me to shoot matches with a G21. I would typically shoot 80-120 per match. There would be some moderate leading, and I'd scrub the barrel between every match. Never had any signs of overpressure.

Yeah but I did just order an Alpha Wolf barrel for it.  Cause flutes are cool...

I did, for awhile.  I wasn't happy with the accuracy and switched to a Lone Wolf barrel.  Got better groups and left the LW barrel in the pistol.

All the time, mostly jacketed. I have run some hard cast buffalo bore with no issues as well.

I even shoot lead I cast from wheel weights through my glocks

With certain Glocks?...........explain please.

Any pistol with an extremely overcharged high pressure round (.40) is going to cause an issue, especially with polymer frame pistols.
People reloading ammunition that really don't know what they are doing loading double charges. Bullet setback from chambering the same round over an over again. Obstruction inside the barrel, squib round.
There are all types of pistols that can and will 'kaboom' when firing overcharged rounds. It's not just 'certain Glocks, not sure where that statement came from but it's incorrect.

Supposedly the gas seal on Glock rifling is tighter.  Shooting lead causes fouling and the pressure goes up.

I’ve been shooting handloaded ammo from stock Glock barrels since the mid 90’s with out any issues. Mostly powder coated lead these days.

I almost exclusively shoot reloads through my factory barreled Glocks.
