Ok what you need to post-
1. Powder used and charge weight 2. Bullet used and weight of bullet. 3. Recoil Assembly used. Gen 2/3, Gen 4. 4. Barrel and comp manufacturer. Any other data that you have or think is needed. I'll start- 1. Powder-Autocomp, 5.2 grains 2. Everglades reloading 124gr plated bullet. 3. Recoil Assembly used is a Gen 2/3. Frame is a Gen 3. 4. KKM barrel and comp Flat shooting, accurate. I need to bag it and push out the range to 25 yards. I also will be chronoing it next week. Guys-Feel free to post anything ideals on what else is needed, in the way of info. |

1. 4gr Titegroup
2. 124gr Xtreme HP 3. Gen 4 stock RSA Shot smooth but I don't have any autocomp loads to compare it to. Has been said to be too fast to make comp perform well. ------------------------------------- 1. 5.3gr CFE pistol 2. 124gr Xtreme HP 3. Gen 4 stock RSA Shot well, a little more snappy than the titegroup. Will increase charge next load sesh. ------------------------------------- 1. 3.8gr Red Dot 2. 124gr Xtreme HP 3. Gen 4 stock RSA Will not cycle 50% of time, probably too fast to even make the comp perform. Edit for science: Gun is a legitimate RS, so KKM barrel and comp. |

3.9gr Autocomp
147gr Hardcore HP plated from Rocky Mountain Reloading. Gen 4 RSA with KKM barrel and comp. Pretty accurate, average 2in group benched. My RS was 'broken in' with about 1500rds of 147gr Speer Lawman which is pretty hot, 1000fps from a chronograph. This handload is probably around 890ish. |

Might be useful to specify barrel/ comp type, not everyone in the thread was using KKM.
I'll edit in load info once i settle on one (and get my barrel.. due in this week if I'm lucky) Edit to add: just got shipping info on my KKM barrel/comp... Going to go nuts on the press the next few days and see what runs. Found a stash of 90gr frangibles... Wonder if I can get the gun to run with 90gr pills.. Have a few K of 124 Golddots to work up as well. Going to grab some stuff from Everglades as well, they beat my normal supplier on pricing pretty handily. |

Gen 4 G17
Zev Dragon Fly side Trijicon RMR06 S3F barrel TBRC Gen3 Mini Comp Stock recoil spring 124g JHP 3.6g Titegroup would only cycle 80% 3.8g Titegroup worked 100% but cases just falling at my feet. 4.0g Titegroup worked 100% and good positive ejection. |
|
Well all of a sudden tonight my Roland special would not run a hundred percent with the load that I posted.
I would get two or three failure to completely feed out of each magazine. The slide was not coming back far enough to pick up the next round. So I came home and loaded 5.5 grains of Auto comp. In that load it ran 100%. I'm seriously thinking of getting an aftermarket guide rod and different weight Springs to experiment with it but I really don't want to I'd rather stick with as much stock stuff as I can. |

Open gun, Dog1?
I'd think the data from the USPSA guys would be beneficial... along with the reduced power recoil springs since you're using a comp. |

Just got my KKM barrel /comp yesterday so today I load... looking at the 124gr with 4.0 titegroup... anyone chrony that load? I have several pounds of Titegroup that I've been sitting on unloved so it intrigues me.
I'm pondering trying Bluedot with a 124gr, the slower burn might give enough gas to get the comp working well... might also get me to clean more as I'm guessing it would be filthy. Alliant lists 6.9 grains on their website as pushing 124gr JHP to 1188fps... right where I'm aiming to end up muzzle velocity wise as I'm aiming to clone my duty Winchester Ranger 124gr+P which claim 1180fps. |

After a quick visit to the press (loaded on single stage for now):
1:titegroup 4.0gr 2: 124gr Speer Golddot JHP 3: stock g4 RSA 4: KKM barrel/comp cycled 100%, ejection slightly anemic. Accurate enough off hand for headshots to 20m easily. Might try up to 4.3gr in 0.1gr steps and see if I can improve it. 1: Bluedot load over current book max, but well under max from a few years ago 2: 124gr Speer Golddot JHP 3: Stock g4 RSA 4: KKM Barrel/comp cycled 100%, positive ejection, no pressure signs. Very accurate. somewhat smokier than I'd hoped. Brass went into sizing die very easily so not stretched too much. No 'smiles'. 1: titegroup 4.1gr 2: 90gr frangible fmj profile 3: stock g4 RSA 4: KKM barrel/comp bout 90% reliable. Accuracy lacking. Will look more at that 90gr as I have a few K projectiles sitting around. 1: Unique 5.0gr 2: 125gr LRN hard cast 3: stock G4 RSA 4: KKM barrel/comp worked suprisingly well. older load I had sitting around. I may shoot a few hundred cast and see if I have any leading issues with the barrel or comp. |

The BT guiderod with a 15lb spring and 5.5 grains of AutoComp works pretty well. Flat shooting.
The 5.2grs of AC runs about 98% with the 15lb spring. I may drop the load to 5.4 or 5.3 after I run more rounds through it. I shot it yesterday at a club practice night and it ran flawlessly. |

I think I'm going to shelve the 90gr frangibles for use with the KKM Comp... when I pushed them hard enough to cycle 100% I started to see that they were getting torn apart prior to hitting paper. Little shrapnel / sliver holes in the paper around the bullet impacts. I was into that grey area of 'over max' load in some manuals and nearing max in others... I think I'll just use those remaining projectiles to load range ammo for my other 9mm's.
Looking at the comp, there is some build up of what appears to be the plating off the frangible itself. I'm thinking the comp was shaving the round slightly and causing it to spin apart in flight. Comp has no deformation however. I haven't had issues with any cast load causing leading in the KKM barrel or comp... got a few K of cast projectiles to play with in the garage as well. |

I haven't tried TG with a comp yet, but apparently it burns too fast to work well in that regard. You're almost certainly going to need reduced power recoil spring, maybe 11#. Have you tried HS-6 yet? Impossible to double charge, and it works well towards or at max . Open gun shooters push wayyyy beyond that. View Quote I have no issues with the AC and 124 grain bullet if I load it to 5.3-5.5, that is with a 15lb spring. |

Well I don't have a RS/FS build, but I have a comped 34 that I finally got to wring out the other day.
Load was HS-6 ladders 6.0-6.6, 1.150 COAL pushing Berry's 124 RN. ZEV barrel , Carver 2 port comp. Jager gen 4 guide rod/11# ismi and stock gen 4 RSA functioned fine. It was a touch dirty on the low end, I had some soot and flaking on my arm after a while. Naturally the comp worked better the hotter it got towards 6.6 gr. No pressure signs. I didn't Chrono for powerfactor, and won't go much hotter until I get one. I think somewhere in the mid to upper end of that ladder would be great in a RS build. Bottom line: really fun, flatter than uncomped super mousefarty 147 2.8 gr titegroup loads. Eta- these aren't the berry's thick plate bullets so that's another reason for needing a Chrono to push hotter. Berry's says 1,250 fps limit iirc. |

Ran through my supply of autocomp and cracked into my 1lb of Win 572.
Didn't quite like this powder as much as autocomp, plus it's more expensive so I won't be buying more. At the lower end it wouldn't cycle. Settled on: 4.0gr Winchester 572 147gr RMR Hardcore HP CCI small pistol primer This should be around 890FPS, and was giving me just a hair over 2in groups at 25 yards, benched with 10 rounds. |
|
I'm at a quandary. I've started testing with Berry's plated 124gr bullets and Autocomp.
I got the best accuracy on the lower end of my powder weights. Should I go for best accuracy? Or more velocity and gas pressure to work the comp more efficiently? |

I settled on
5.2gr AC 124gr Berry's Win SPP KKM comp and barrel. Stock Gen 4 RSA. Functions great, velocity from a 10 shot average was 1101fps. Next week's test loads will be Longshot with some left over 147gr and 124gr RMRs. But I'm thinking I'll probably stick with this load. |
|
Picked up a lb of AutoComp at Cabellas the other day... the 5.2gr behind a 124gr Golddot does really well in my Roland.
I may have to get a few more lbs of AutoComp. |
