Also; any CCW costs are going to be cheaper than getting shot.

Me and Blitz know that fo sho.

I followed blitz's story, but am unfamiliar with yours.

Care to share?

BTW - blitz - how are your hands doing?
Doing better.  The good days far outweigh the bad.  Some stiffness and soreness with the changing weather or with heavy use.  Hurts like a mother when I catch the ring finger on something due to the lag, especially when it involves lateral movement, but by God I'm still here.

If you ever make it down to Winston-Salem, NC, beers are on me.

It was an ND by a (now former) friend of mine, but it has awakened me to the fact that:

1. Getting shot is expensive (especially when you have no insurance)
2. Peace of mind is cheap
3. Practice off-hand shooting, drawing, one handed reloads, etc. because there is no way I could have done anything with my right arm.

I knew #2-3 before, and #1 is common sense but you don't realize until it happens to you. I'm about $48k in the hole now, I haven't tallied it up in a while but I know in the last couple months I've racked up over $4800 worth of therapy (thankfully it was free through a program at the hospital) trying to get my range of motion back so I can return to the police academy and become a sheriff's deputy like I wanted to. At first it made me second guess my choice of career and my ability to go towards an active shooter or something if I was in a position to stop them, but now I think it has made me realize I'll do exactly what I thought I would, which is whatever I can to stop the threat.

WOW!

Glad that it wasn't worse, and I hope you get the range of motion you need to go to the academy.  Sounds like you have the right mindset for it.

Thanks, I went to an academy introduction a few weeks ago and talked to the director and assessment coordinator. I'm going to wait a few more weeks before I start the application process ALL OVER again (sigh) and hopefully get in for the January class. I may need to have another surgery as the two screws that go into my forearm are starting to back out and cause some discomfort but it's nothing I can't handle; however, if it's fixable, I want to get it done.

So far, so good, I've surpassed all the doctor's expectations of recovery and still chuggin' forward... This is the only job I want. I'd rather go on a ride along any day of the week than work, sleep, eat, play video games, fish, hunt, shoot... ANYTHING.

Anyways, back to yo scheduled thread.

Still WAY cheaper than the cost of a new (or even a slightly used) coffin.
