Assume no reload and these are your only carry opions.

Sig 232 (x8 rounds of .380) -or- S&W 637 (x5 rounds of 38spl)

Both running HST's.

Which would you carry and why?

S&W only as a temporary measure. Hot .38's are better than .380.  But you really should get a 9mm.

Agreed. I had a Kahr p9 but the damn thing couldn't be trusted so I sold it. To bad cause it was the perfect size in my opinion.
I also have a commander 1911 but it's to heavy to be comfortable (steal frame) and several full size 9's (92G & M&P) that I feel are to big to CC with.
Might have to pick up a gen5 G19 or a Shield in the future.

Was just kind of wondering what others thoughts were on x5 38's VS x8 380's.

I guess either are better than a pointy stick/No gun though.

Sell whichever I have, buy a Glock 19.

FPNI - Can I use one of the old 3" S&W 640s with Buffalo Bore factory ammo?

If those were my only option to carry I'd sell em.

Get a good belt and holster and carry that 1911

I've been carrying a 442 pretty much 100% of the time.  Although I'm going through a change lately and starting to carry other guns.  So my answer SHOULD be the revolver.  But I carry 15 extra rounds.  If I really had to choose between those 2 guns and NO RELOAD, I'd choose the .380.   Given it was reliable.

At least I think I would....  it's not an easy choice to make.  Why can't you have a reload?  I mean either one does not make much of a footprint.  Right now I carry 2 speed strips with 4 rounds, a speedloader with 5 and two loose rounds for an even 20.  And none of them are bulky at all.  You could argue the speedloader is bulky, but it's pretty small.  You could fit at least 1 speed strip or one extra single stack mag pretty easily somewhere.  Put it in your shoe for crying out loud.  Remember those shoes with the pocket?  Roos, or something like that.

I'd carry a fullsize, never carry a subcompact or anything with less than 12 rounds and especially with no reload, that's just dumb.

I carry a usp 9 with 3 reloads every day, stop being a wuss.

1911 is the answer you seek.

Actually the answer is a Commander.

I picked the Sig 232.  It's like my Bersa Thunder 380 only better in every way except price.
I don't like snubbies at all.  Not an option for me.

How do you like that one?  Does it shoot well.  I thought about one of these real hard.  It was funny because at the time the only one I could fondle at my LGS was one with that weird purply bluish finish that changes in the light.........  And I didn't want that finish.  LOL.   I liked everything else about it though.   Does it shoot well?

I would choose the revolver as I believe it would be faster to reload than the P232.  The P232 is a sexy pistol but the mag release sucks the HK P7 PSP had a more intuitive mag release than the 232 which is just terrible.

Sell both, buy G19 or M&P compact 2.0.

I have the p232 and a s&w 642. Both are reliable firearms that will serve you well. Be picky with what ammo you carry in the sig and practice reloading because the mag release is a pain.

Revolvers were getting it done for about a century or more and still do. I do carry two reloads and have enough practice to hit a steel uspsa target at 100 yards 4 out of 5 shots with my j frame and my groups at speed inside 15 yards are one ragged hole which I think will still get the job done.

I'd love to see a video of you rapid fire in a j frame into a single hole at 15 yards. That's impressive.

Me too.  I think I need to do the apex on my j frame.  It's still like 13#.  And I shoot and dry fire regular.  It MIGHT be 12#.  It's not really helping me.

I'm concerned about soft primer strikes but I don't know......

Lots of off topic bullshit answers in here... (as usual)

To answer the OP's question, I would much rather carry the 637 than the P232.

The P232 is a heavy gun with a large footprint for a .380, and I have carried a J-frame for the last 9 years as a minimalist summer gun.  My first was a 637 that I eventually sold and replaced with a no-lock 442.  Excellent carry gun, and very accurate if you do your part.

I have/had a Sig 232 (my son claimed it) and have a S&W Mod 36.  I have carried both as a CCW and found both to be great carry guns.  As the previous poster said the Sig does have a large footprint, so I changed it out for a Kahr CW9.  The Kahr is the same size and capacity as the Sig but in 9mm.  The only problem I had with the Sig was that I have large hands and if I didn't get a proper grip on the pistol the slide would bite the web of my hand.  Reloads for the Sig are different due to the mag release, but with practice you can change out mags pretty quick.

I think either of your options would be good carry guns. I tended to carry the Sig more often that the .38 because of capacity.

Something that makes a huge difference in j frame performance is using an all steel gun. Those extra ounces on the range make it much easier to shoot well

I regularly stalk the mean streets of Wilson, Wyoming, with a J Frame, without a care in the world.
