I sent in my upper hand guard to a maker of US wood stock sets. Those brown plastic handguards are butt ugly.

Besides myself, anyone interested in these?

Depending on price, I'd be all over some walnut. That plastic/bakelite on the Tantal is some fugly stuff.

I sent the handguard to Matt Shuster at Ironwood Designs. Matt makes great furniture for AKs and FALs. He said he'd take a look at making them. No promises. I do not know what he'd charge.

IMHO, cutting the slot in the front groove for the spring may be tough part. Walnut is not as sturdy as plastic on thin areas.

I'll let you know what I hear from Matt.

How about some laminated? That would be strong enough, I'd think.

I'm down for either.

As long as its wood.
