What the hell is this thing I've got? It's a shorter version, paratrooper? I can't find any ID marks on it except:

Mod skss 7.62x39mm c8a va bh va

Well and the serial number. Edit, even that's odd because it's got extra digits on the receiver that are not on bolt or stock.

Would appear to be specially built by Norinco for the US market and similar to a an SKS "Paratroop" model.  I believe that with the SKSS the scope and mount were a standard feature.  If there are two digits in front of the serial number, that will be the year it was imported.

If it has a 16" barrel it's a "paratrooper" which were cut down 20" barrels for the US market.

SKSS marked para SKS carbines have a shorter gas tube/piston. I used to own one and they are much less common than most other para SKS's.

AIRBORNE!!!!!
