Circa 1953 Russian Type III - built by Mario of Piece of History Firearms (Tucson AZ) on a full Russian parts kit.

What evidence do you have that it is a 1953?

It's in the configuration of the Type 3 introduced in '53/'54. It could be built on a kit as new as 1959.

Bought an IZ132L with the back end conversion.  Converted the front end myself using Bulgarian AK-74 parts.

Waiting on canis adapter to use a Troy battle axe stock, a anged foregrip and will probably change out the red dot for a PA 1-6x in the near future.

My Saiga 7.62x39 after I converted it.
I started going for the original look and feel...

But I could never get over the crappy sights, so...

I don't like the look as much, but it's much more practical now.

The Kydex paddle on the grip is a Kalifornication thing.  It allows me to use my "Legally possessed by me in California prior to 1-1-2000 high capacity magazine feeding devices".  I've had the mags from when I had a hinese Poly Tech type 56 "spiker" AK I registered under the original 1990 AW ban.  I sold it in 2000 or 2001, but kept the mags.  I actually have one more Tula Bakelite than in the picture.  It was on the shelf of the closet, loaded, and forgot to grab it for the photo.  Bulgarian furniture and East German sling.
