Like others here I was curious about the lack of Saiga rifles. Well I emailed Eaa and here's what I got.

WE ARE NOT IMPORTING IZHMASH ANY LONGER NOT SURE WHO WILL DO IT

Apparently Remington has bought EAA's import permits for the Baikal & Saiga lines but won't import the Saigas. You're looking at 8+ months for the Russians to find another importer/distributor and do the paperwork before we see any new shipments. Glad I've got my 3 converted Saiga-12s!

Wait a bit...
You are saying that EAA signed over to Remington the rights for the Izhmash shotguns and the Saiga's, but that Remington won't be importing any Saiga's?

Hummm.... sounds fishy....
Gonna dig a bit deeper...
Hopefully I can get some kind of answer....

Standby... well, till after the 10th of Jan... Russian Christmas and New Years... from the old calendar.

Ok let me run this by ya'll.

One of the biggest names and mfgs. of firearms in the world with lots of cash approaches your company about  a contract to give them exclusive rights to import your firearms to the USA. They have   distribution contracts already with the 10 biggest retailers of firearms in the USA. One retailer that would carry your firearms has 3035 stores* in the USA alone. Your current importer has 0 distribution contracts with firearm retailers. Then they want to buy many times the number of firearms in the first shipment than your current USA importer has bought from you in the last 5 years.

This is what I think really happened.

This is from the Spartan website that 7 models of O/U shotguns ,7 models of SS shotguns, and 3 models of single shot shotguns denoted by a * are,

*Spartan models available only at: Academy, Big 5, Bi Mart, Cabela’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Dunham’s, Gander
 Mountain, GI Joe’s, Kmart, Sports Authority / Gart’s / TSA, & Walmart.

Doing a search I found this,
Big 5 has 309 stores
Bi-mart has 60
Academy has 80
Cabela's has 15
Dick's Sporting Goods has 169
Dunham's has 111
Sports Authority has 385
GI Joe's has 23

So the above add up to 1152 stores plus Wal-marts 3035 stores is 4190 stores. If every store only had two Spartan shotgun which you know they have many more. This would be more shotguns than EAA has imported since they have been in business.
I would have to say that the deal for Izhmash was not big but.......

Wal-mart sells the cheap synthetic stock Remington 7400 semi auto 30-06.
So it wouldn't make sense for Remington to import a cheaper priced Russian semi auto 30-06 to compete with the 7400 would it?

But would a Saiga 7.62x39mm  with 5rd mag imported by Spartan with the Saiga name replaced by  "Whitetail" on the receiver for $239 sell?
Would boxes of Remington 7.62x39mm ammo marked "7.62x39mm Whitetail" sell?

I've had magazines on backorder for several weeks, order pending. I just e-mailed them and metioned the rumor of Saiga parts being discontinued. They responded and said it is true. Oh well, now its off to find another source.

I've got a Saiga 12 on the way, but now the mags have dried up.  Even the 5 rounders are nearly impossible to find.

Anyone know if the overseas sources for the 8 rounders at the $80 price will sell the 5 rounders at something more reasonable?

Thanks.  I sent them an e-mail asking if they would consider stocking the 5-rounders.  I still choke on the $70 price of the 8-rounders.  If they can sell a 5-rounder for $30 +F&H they could probably sell a bunch to people in the US until supply is reestablished.

Here's hoping...

So.... I have put off getting a saiga 12. I was thinking of going to a gun show near me and trying to find one NIB. If it takes me about 3 months or so to save up, what would the going rate be if no more are coming in? Crap I hope I find some back water redneck that has no idea whats going on. Anymore than $350 for one and it won't be worth it, sence I'll still need over $400 to have it re-made "right".

I picked one up last week for $285, $229 from CDNN and the rest MI sales tax and the fee to my FFL.  Really fun shooter, put my PK-AV red dot on in and put 25 2 3/4 Magnum slugs.  Recoil is surprisingly light, no way I'd fire 25 Mag slugs in a sitting with an 870.  A cool shotgun.

Now if I can only find some mags...

All of the O/U and S/S shotguns, etc. are made by Baikal, not Izmash.  Barring unusual import/export regulations that would require Remington to make some sort of deal, it seems odd that they would purchase both lines if they don't plan on importing one of them.  Does anyone know for sure that Remingtion did actually purchase the rights for the Saigas as well?

I called them up today and spoke to someone for a short while. The lady on the other end said they are expecting their first shipment around "late August" and from there will be working with distrubuters and dealers and what not to disseminate the products. I asked about mags and she said they will also be importing "accessories". At the moment, they are taking names and numbers of interested parties to see where people are and what they want.
Also, the number above is for "vanFleet Enterprises" she said, which is affliated with RAAC. The actual number is 812 752 2894

Hey,

I am just now getting into AKs and I was wondering if there is any new information on the SAIGA importation ?

It is mid August now, just wondering if anyone has heard anything yet

I'd like to get a nice new SAIGA converted one of these days... after my Polish kit.

It seems like AKs are  some kind of disease....  to the likes that I've never seen before

Is there an "AK" patch out there somewhere ?  I'd like to nip this addicting hobby in the bud before it gets too expensive

Anyway, back to the topic.... If you fellas have any news let me know.

Thanks

Don't take my word for this but I own a Saiga 7.62x39 and I was told Remington bought Izhmash and no more Saigas are going to be produced, as well as the new  BATFE importation ban in July.

Perhaps I won't be shooting my Saiga anymore.

Not a true statement.  Remingtom merely has the rights to selll a specific line of firearms.  I spoke to the nice Lady at RAA and she said that the first shipment of guns should be clearing customs by late October.  They will be importing many more brand lines besides the Saiga.  Our favorite Saigas will definitely be coming back soon, beyond any reasonable doubt.

This is strange. I went by this address and could not find it. If were a correct address it would be wedged between a Kroger grocery store and a card shop. I live just up the street from this address. I guess they get the mail stopped at the post office and go pick it up every day. We do that at my work as well.

The 812 area code is southern Indiana. I wonder where they really are?!?

Bob

ETA: I am guessing road trips would be a waste of time as there is no showroom as of yet.

The price was one of the attractive things about the Saigas.    Are they costing more to import now, or are the importers/distributors just anticipating that the market will bear a higher price from the start?
