I own a few AR's and am looking into getting an AK. My father bought a WASR, with the flimsy plastic sidefolding stock that rocks up and down when firing. Is it possible to swap it out with an underfolder without having to deal with rivets? If I had the rifle here with me I would examine it and try to figure it out but its about 8 hours away. Thanks

Well upon further review, would one of these "underfolding stocks with trunion" work?

Basically Im just looking for a bolt-on affair here. Excuse my ignorance.

I'm no expert by an means when it comes to AK's so if I'm Ill informed someone please correct me.

It sounds like your talking about the TAPCO folding stock. I heard there are flimsy like you said and they can break during use. On the flipside I've seen and heard that a ACE folding stock is the way to go, but they run you a pretty penny. On there website they list their stocks for each type of receiver and the WASR should have a Stamped reciever where you can only use stocks made for it. To change it to a underfolder would mean to change out the rear trunion and make some changes to the receiver so it wouldn't just be a swap out job.

Since you have a Romanian rifle, why not go with a Romanian folding stock?

Bolts on with no modifications needed:

The Yugo underfolder that you are looking at on Gunbroker requires some serious modifications to the WASR receiver. It is not a bolt on by any stretch of the imagination.

How does that Romanian Folding stock feel while you are shooting it?

I've always wondered that...

It locks up solid as a rock. I've got mine wrapped in paracord to make it more comfortable in cold weather. This is not my folder, but it gives you and idea of what the paracord wrap looks like:
