Just wanted to share with everyone... I was a AR guy being in the military and all, but after many hours of reading the posts on here I bought a AK.

It's a 2002 SAR-1, in awesome shape! But I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

Here is the link to the picture

The wood furniture is in great shape but I want more of a red look so I will probably refinish them. The bolt isn't polished but I think I'm going to give it a try (I like the way it looks), is there any downfalls to doing that?

Not that I can think of .  Try some CLP on the metal finish, it may help.

I stripped mine with a wire brush on the end of a drill after having little success with chemical strippers.

Mine looks great and I have not had any rust issues in four years. No downfall I can see..

Go for it dude!!

I think I will go for it, so far I haven't heard any downfalls yet.
I just think it looks good.

Thanks for the info everyone! I just finished polishing my bolt (For some reason that sounds naughty) and it looks great!

My boss gave me tomorrow off, so I'm taking my AK to the range with a friend. Hopefully everything will go well.

I also bought up all of the Wolf Ammo at a local Store for $3 (box of 20). So I should have enough for tomorrows adventures.

Next time I'll make the pics smaller...

UPDATE!!

I just returned from the range. Went there to shoot my AK for the first time. And it performed flawlessly. I do have to say I think I'm a converted AR lover...

Only ran 80 rounds through it. Because I onlyhave 300 total, but I could have blown them all today so I had to pace myself.

I like the wooden pistol grip. Did it come on the rifle or did you install it? If so, where did you get the grip?
Thanks,

The pistol grip is from Ironwood (so I was told)

I think Wal-Mart or a Auto hobby store should carry it. But I never used it since my Charging Handle was already pretty brite.

(That stuff still haunts me from my Basic Training days when I had to polish the chrome in our Dorm)
