Might be your last chance. I ordered another one today. Why have just one?

I was about to buy the SAR-1 but saw the SAR-2. This will be my first AK, so what should I go for? I might not buy another AK. I dont have alot of money :( so my gun collection will be small. Right now I only have two hand guns, H&K USP 40 and a S&W 38special. So if you had to buy the 47 or the 74 what would you go for?

Nice! What synthetic stock are you using? The SAR-2 I currently own is Plain Jane from the factory. My next one, I'm going custom.

The SAR-2 will not let you down.  In fact, you will most likely like it better than the SAR-1

Get the SAR2 and 4 extra mags.
Best 5.45 ammo deal including shipping  in the East is likely Dans Ammo.

If you just like the way the AK looks, the best may be either SAR-2 or -3, in this case, AIM sells the -2, so that's the one. -2 shoots the "modernized" Russian 5.56 mm bullet, -3 shoots .223 like the ARs.

But if you must have the 7.62X39 cartridge, then it's SAR-1.

SAR-1 or SAR-2 for a first timer?  That is a tought call.  Functionally the rifles are nearly identical. The SAR-1 uses the 7.62x39 ammo that is much more available and it kicks up a bigger puff of dirt when it hits.  The SAR-2 uses 5.45x39 ammo, has very light recoil (comared to the SAR-1 or about antything). Right now good -74 mags are real inexpensive, but you can get 75 round drums for the -47.
I have only one AK and it is a SAR-2, I like the caliber a lot. I have a couple 308 rifles for when I want more power.
If the cheapest ammo is a deciding factor go with the SAR-1.
You really cannot go wrong with either rifle, but if you do get a SAR-2 order some ammo with it so you are able to shoot it right away.
Ammoman.com is a good source for ammo.

I just got my SAR-2 from AIM and this thing is PERFECT!  The wood and park. are excellent, MUCH better than the '02 SAR-1 I bought last year at a funshow.  Plus, there was a paper target in the box.  My SAR-1 came without a box, so I didn't know they sighted these in!  Or is this a new thing?

The SAR's are bead blasted and blued, they are not parked.

My bad.  I thought it was some sort of a dark phosphate finish.
