I see that, consistantly, about 40 to 50% or more of the MAK's are listed as
NIB/NIW on the auction sites. Is this a sham or were a LOT bought and stuck back. It seems a little odd to me.

And I am not trying to be a flamer, it's a legitimate question.

I believe you answered it--bought in bulk and stuck back, stacked in the closet. Around Thanksgiving, a local store got 10 in, all NIB, from the same "estate". Sold them at $300 each.
I dragged ass in getting over there, and of course they were all gone. Back around 91'-92' (maybe later), a local store that was owned by the same people that owned B-West, a Norinco importer (and half ass AK builder), would have sales constantly on them, and if I remember correctly prices were around $160ish---and I remember people leaving with 3 or 4 boxes at a time. I was busy doing the same thing with new  Russian Makarov's at $90-100 each--wish I would have been doing it with the Mak 90's to.

I bought 2 the day of or after the AWB at a local store to "set back", kept one of them sold the other, wish I kept it. Was thinking of doing the same with some Romanian AK's before the AWB expired.

That's what I was thinking, I wasn't in to "real" guns then. I was all into hunting and the rifles for it. What a waste of time--and money.

Learned about the Romanians right after they all sold out from importers.

Trying to make up for lost time, but have to get the $$$ first.

Forgot to ad, the irony is the MAK 90 wasn't affected by the AWB since it wasn't domestic production, it was ultimately killed by Clinton's ban on Norinco imports.    They all sold out anyway.  One of my local gun shops jacked Colt blue label HBAR prices up to $2500 each and sold them all during the first month after the AWB

It isn't too ironic to see NIB on a MAK-90.  After all, it was imported in the greatest numbers compared to some of the other AKs out there.  My guess would be that many of those you see selling them NIB purchased them for investment purposes.  Just think, they probably paid about $160 for them in the early 90s, now they can unload a NIB gun for $350 plus.

With one strike of the pen, this "could" all go away.  I have seen articles where Norinco has been claiming that the US is hurting their business by NOT allowing them to export to the US.  They have claimed that they are losing billions in lost revenues due to this unfair ban.

I paid $201 including tax in August 1993 and $211 including tax in November 1993 for MAK 90's, just checked my records

Picked one up at a local pawnshop last month, paid 250.00 with tax for it.  A Norinco, made in '93, never had a round thru it.

I know a couple of people who have 2 or 3 NIB tucked away at home.

I bought a pair of them a long time ago for $149 ea.; one is a shooter, one is still in the plastic.  Wish that I could have afforded more.

I wish I could find one for 149.  I love my Mak.  Especially since the kvar stock and tapco parts.
