Who made/imported the best quality AMD 63 and AMD 65 that have ever come into this country?  In other words, if I want a representation of these guns, what do I go looking for?

IMHO, TGI out of Tennessee is the best source for an AMD-65.  As for a 63, I did two conversions of the FEG SA-85M imported by KBI, one with double pistol grip and one with a single.

Its 'AK63' and I made one too out of a SA85M and it could go back and forth either way. Only took about two minutes to change it. The only thing you have to make is the naked gas tube unless you get lucky and find a real one.
