Got my AMD65Tech stock in today! Dammit boys! What an improvement! I can't wait to get this thing out for some trigger time! Install was super easy! I had the new stock installed within 10 minutes. Nice fit & finish, easy install, greatly improved ergonomics; what's not to love!??

8NAK4,  How do you like the MFT rails?  Did you replace the gas tube or does it fit around the original well enough?

The MFT handguard fits right over top of the standard AMD gas tube, zero modification needed. I like the MFT handguard. It holds up well to heat, it's got good ergonomics, and makes it easy to mount a forward grip and a light. I did end up trimming the MFT Engage vert grip accommodate mag changes. Just had to cut it at an angle, no big.

Built this one up quite some time ago when I worked at TGI. The 5.5" flash hider took forever to come in from US Machineguns

Wished I hadn't gotten rid of it. It was a very good shooting rifle.

and.....

after all that, back to stock. It spends a LOT of time outdoors in wet, sunlight, lots of extreme temperature changes, strapped to road and dirt bikes, and constantly put through the wringer. Figured the wood was too pretty to go out like that.

It does have that BFPU/thrown down the driveway look going for it now though.

How do you get wood to fit the upper HG?

How do you get wood to fit the upper HG?
Take a regular gas tube, cut it down, heat the end with a torch, then hammer a socket in to it to flare it back out.

Can't recall the socket size but I'm sure you could find it with some googling. Also, make sure to leave it a little long then file down to size after you flare it.

Most lower HGs will require some minor filing to fit as well.

Not a traditional AMD, but much more traditional overall.

Thanks.  My previous build is in here somewhere.  I wanted to make it lighter so I went with MLok and yes, it is a lot lighter.  Really puts into perspective how heavy that Ultimak lower rail really is.  Here's the parts list.  The ALG trigger is actually completely black but I painted the raised rim just to blend with the parts that came red, which is something strike industries like's to do, apparently.  I saw a red and black AR and decided to go with that theme, on my AK.  Preciously it was just all black with black, grey, green, and brown magpul covers.

THE NEW

Rail: SLR Solo 11.5"
Stock: Strike industries viper stock
Grip: Strike industries
Forend Grip: Strike industries Cobra (I guess SI likes snakes)
Trigger: ALG AKT
Magpul handstop kit
Magpul sling adapter
Magpul tapeswitch mount for the surefire
Arisaka Scout mount
Strike Industries MLok rail for the front grip
Strike industries MLok covers

THE OLD

Ultimak top rail
M600 Scout
TWS dust cover rail
Aimpoint T1
UTG rear peep sight (it's very nice for UTG, and it's windage and elevation adjustable)
Circle 10 mag
Bumpski stock adapter (I think it's made by ACE)
Solar Tactical mag well
Vortex Optics spare CR2032 better case

Last thing I plan to do is mount a tantal break. No telling when those will be in stock.

Awesome man, thanks. I have a TGI AMD65 my wife got me years ago when they were cheap and plentiful. I have not done much with it, but might use this as inspiration to make it a little more user friendly.

Yea I bought this one at 550, which was cheap compared to today's used 700 dollar asking price.  I love it so much, I'd buy it at that too.

Actually, you reminded me I forgot to list one thing.  I HIGHLY recommend an AMDTech buffer block.  Not only does it soften the recoil, but the block is so thick that it speeds up follow up shots because the bolt travels a whole inch less.  After a few thousand rounds, no failures at all and this thing shoots like an AR, I shit you not.  Also, this ALG trigger is AMAZING and night and day compared to the Tapco G2.  As far as the block, try and find it at third party vendors.  The guy who makes them is a nice guy, but he takes forever to ship and when you ask him what the deal is, a month after you order, he may get snarky and treat you like you're being an asshole.  He did that to me, not once, not twice, but three times.  A cool guy, but slow.

This AMD has been through about 8 revisions.  I finally stuck with one for a couple of year, and now I am going to stick with this one.  The rest were experimental phases, or doing what I could with what I had, or could afford at the time.  Either keep it traditional, traditional with wood or polymer forend, or enhance whatever you need to to personalize it for what is best for you.  But whatever you choose, just make sure you do it right.  Refrain from buying cheap.  If you have to save money, just wait and get the best of whatever it is you are going for.  I'm not saying a scout is necessary.  Actually a Fenix light or even the new protac rail will do, but if you go cheap, things will break and/or be heavier than the good stuff and you'l just end up with a heavy rifle that is bound to fall apart or have broken useless stuff.  I'm not rich, hell I'm not even very wealthy, but believe me, it will pay off to do it RIGHT.  Some may say, "don't put 6-700 dollars into a 500 dollar rifle, but they miss the point.  You take any good rifle, and the AMD is a GREAT one, throw quality enhancements on it, and it handles and shoots like a 2000 dollar rifle.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing your build.  Have fun.  Please post at important stages.  It's such a fun and educational journey.  You will find that it becomes an extension of yourself as long as you strive to know your weapon in and out and that includes lots of research and range time.  Enjoy!
