right but what is the reasoning behind it? does having a foreign gas piston mke it more evil or is it the government just being dick heads?

Its a little bureaucracy, some nit picking, a bit of a technicality and a loophole in the law. Basically the way just aboiut everything works.

It's not any one particular part that makes it evil, it's just having more than 10 imported parts total in the rifle that is a no-no.

Nothing is different - it's just politics & beuracracy, nothing more. The parts are the same, only made in a different country. The point of the law was not to make you put US parts in your gun, it was to prohibit the import of certain types of weapons. Putting US parts in your gun was not the intent of the law, it's just what has to be done to get around the law.

They had to draw the line somewhere between an imported firearm and a US-made one with some foreign parts.

Yeah...it's just what's required to have your gun the way you want it and not break any laws. Pretty stupid legislation/interpretation, huh?
