in this life you got to roll the dice.
the other side of the coin is those kits could be illegal and worthless.

Yocan get those G3 mags for like $2.00 each now.

Yeah, and Suomi mags are pretty cheap now, not $125 each. It seems the Suomi drums and the Chinese AK drums have swapped places in expense. Makes me sad I didn't get more stuff earlier.

The second add is ironic because Skokie is currently an extremely liberal suburb of Chicago. Skokie has some of the worst anti-gun laws outside of Chicago. The thought of a Gun store selling MGs on Dempster blows my mind.

Shit, Crapco just had G3 mags for $50 for 50.

I put the G3 mag and Suomi drum ad up there so we could see that some things actually are better.

It goes to show that there are still potential for good deals.  Maybe a shipload of FALs or pristing $79 underfolders is in route in a couple years.  c'mon, let a guy dream.

I should clarify, a transferable one

I meant a transferable one . . .  it's just a question of what you'd have to do to get that price

My question is: how come there were all of these guns back in the day but now only 1-2 can be found for sale? Were they destroyed or what?

Ya but if your gonna go all the way back to the 50s with the adds, you majorly have to consider inflation..  From what I heard, a bottle of coke was also like 10 cents during that time, but people also made a lot less money, so basically all that has happened is the dollar isn't worth as much anymore.  However, the 1996 deals are pretty good.

After seing the price on that MP-44

I remember when Finnish Mosin Nagant M-39s were going for less than $100 and I never bough one. I think K31s will be following the same trend in a few years so I decided not to miss the boat this time and stocked up on them.

There will be a day when someone will be posting old ads for Romanian AKs for under $300 and Yugo under folders for under $400 and we will be thinking the same thing.

A lot were destroyed.
A lot more were never registered and are still out there, in somebodies attic, or wall.
Also back then the NFA registry was still open.
You think people would pay 15k for a tranferable factory M16, if they could form 1 a stripped lower ($85)?

They are still out there, the NFA registry is pretty big.

There aren't as many for sale now because most of them are in private collections.

BTW, the transfer tax was still $200 back then. 5 times the price of the gun.

FWIW the guns in the ads were all transferable. None of them got destroyed or "not registered". Also there were no "pre-sample" or "post-sample" MGs, everything was transferable.

The guns that are in "somebody's attic" are WWII bringbacks, not legally imported transferable MGs.

I remember all of those ads.  I think the part kits we have now for $100  both Yugo/Romanian will be looked at with fondness by us in 5 or so years.   There's still some good deals in rifles now also-the $59.00 excellent condition Nagants and the K31's.   The $1 G3 mags.  But, damn I'd love to have  a couple of those MP44's and that Erma submachine gun.

Thanks Stott!.... after all these years, the people and places blend together! I remember Magua Ind did have some SGN ads. again (iirc) at one time their krink kits were $199. Love him or hate him Chief Thunder was a character! I met him at Bulletfest (3 iirc). Man oh man could he lay down the shit talk!...however...he was selling 7.62 & 5.56 plastic waffle mags from the back of his truck for $7/ea!

Actually, side story on him.. Some of the Full auto AKs that my unit has for training purposes (Polish 7,62 underfolders, 5.56 Bulg RPKs) were actually imported by him.. When I saw that, I found it rather funny... If he had been patient, he would of been good..

HK sear for $800, and the price has went up only 10 to 15 thousand dollars in just ten years.. That is ridiculous.. I know the supply is fixed, but if collectors would stop paying some of the prices asked, they would fall..

Or if Reed Knight dies, and his collection hits the market, that might be like dumping a couple tons of gold on the stock market..
