I purchased a kit from a local vender and this is the shit he gave me...

Its a Yugo underfolder. Pitted BAD, and missing lands about the last 3" of barrel.
rear sight is bend, missing FCG spring and sland break, and missing front flip sight to match rear. The wood on it looks like it was pulled out of a fire, and then set free in a lake for 10 years. ALL the finish hs been hand sanded off for some reason, and the chamber is DESTROYED!

I paid $170 for this turd, should I take it back or am I expecting too much?

And does anyone know who is selling REAL kits that are buildable?

I'd bet the price of the kit that if you built it, it'd shoot.

There have been persisting rumors about excellent or unissued Yugo sets, but I haven't seen them yet.  Keep an eye on the Yugo section because that's probably where you'll hear about them first.

Have a little fun with your kit...take it to a psychic and see what kind of story he/she comes up with when they put their hand on it!

Yes, I would take it back.

I would then call Shooters Wholesale, Inc. and talk to Gerry. He's got different grades, and the nice ones ($160) have bright shiny bores and are in excellent shape. A little more $ for all matching #'s. PM me for his phone #.

I'm happy with mine.

Was it cosmo'd up big time when you got it?

Not to hijack but what 80% lower is reccomended for underfolder AK?  I pretty much do want to do anything but riveting/screwing.

I just paid 119.00 for a grade C from Centerfire, and it beats the shit out of that thing. The wood is perfect, the bore so-so, 80-90% blueing on it, man I was pleasantly shocked.

Sorry bout' that one you got there, but I'd take it back if possible.

Friend?  You really got screwed :)  Yes - take it back.  I pray the guy is still in business.  A Rom kit would have been better - that Yugo gives new meaning to the term "sewer pipe"

Oh - I just finished a Yugo fixed - bought from a board member....  yes, you can do better.

If I could even get a round to hand feed into the gun I would say you are correct.

Take it back.

There are much better kits out there for the same amount of money.

That would make an awsome looking kit!

A Somolian wouldn't know that it was made on a fresh reciever in an American garage.

build it!

Send that POS back. That "kit" is worth $17, not $170.

Just tell him there's been a terrible mistake with the rifle kit bought from him.

The kit was terrible -- and buying from him was a mistake.

Have him take it back. That's awful! The pitting, errosion and such make it a poor candiate for a rebuild. That's throwing good money after bad.
The worst looking kit I've got so far is a Polish underfolder from SG. Lots of finish wear. The underfolder is all bare steel! The rest of the rifle is about 50% finish remaining. But even for all that "carry wear" it had, the bore and chamber look great. Wood is pretty nice too. It'll make a good rebuild if refinished.

If  the bore and chamber are no good, it needs retired. I'd ask that guy if he even looks at them before shipping!

No such thing as a lower on an AK.

As far as the kit - it looks like shit. Return it with a nastygram.

who did you get it from?/ someone on here?

or do you mean local as in you town?? if so why didnt you drive to the place and look at it before you bought it??

It was a local vender as in my town. The scary part is I have seen many of thse kits built by him in pawn shops and at shows. I am going to start looking at the bores on his builds when I see them.

I did look at the kit but it has so much cosmoline and junk it was hard to tell its condition. I Know I can make the gun LOOK good, but I want a shooter as well. I can't even get a round in the chamber by hand.

It pisses me off becasue he told me thse were his "Hand Selected" kits he was going to keep for himself, but he would go ahead and let one go to me.

If he is an ass about giving my money back, or getting me a better kit I will post up his info. I hate getting ripped off, and I feel sorry for the folks who may have purchased one of his builds. If he used kits in this condition that is.

Oh a built kit by him with this same kind of kit is almost $600

Unless he's using already made receivers, or has a manufacturer's license, he's not only ripping people off (if using this type of kit) but is also violating federal law.
If his stuff is showing up in pawn shops of all places, well, I'd have to suspect he is not using per builts,  nor has a manu license, pawn shop owners being what they are in most cases (ie, scumbags) and the general line of BS he gave you.
Yeah, he was going to use it as rebar when he poured that pad in his backyard for the outdoor patio grill. BS! That's a culled out crap kit he couldn't foist off on anybody else. I'd insert it up his ass sideways without vaseline, get my money back, and never, ever buy anything from him ever again.

Is it my eyes, or has the front edge of the chamber been deformed.

Has someone been beating on it?  Is the barrel pin in place?

Perhaps someone tried (and failed) to dissassemble it.
