I'm looking to get a 74 to replace my sar 1. Want to spend round 400 bucks, what do you recommend? Prefer to have some synthetic us stocks on it and a threaded gas block/barrel and will probably slap a folder on it eventualy. There's a whole list of manufactures in the faq but personal experiance would be appreciated.

Take it easy.

The EE and Atlanticfirearms.com is a good start...

You could get a SAR2 for $400.

there's been a couple on the EE recently around $500. Like Jicky said, Atlantic still has the bulgarian AK74s with wood stocks for around $550 I believe.

The SLR-105 would be the best choice. Buying a Romanian SAR-2 will cost more before it's over, having everything installed back.

Crap what happened to the days of sub 300 dollar aks... I gotta rethink what I'm willing to spend.
