Are you looking for collectors purpose or actual use?
Collectors purpose, RusMilitary in England has the Afgan Era ones.. Otherwise, I would suggest something by Eagle Industries... ETA- The original Western chest rig, made by Arktis in the UK-   I had one years ago, and was pretty good.. Dont know what happened to it... Its bare bones though.. 3 mag pouches and 2 small pouches for canteen, etc.. They have a US branch- www.arktisusa.com/ And the price on the chest rig is pretty reasonable (as non-surplus stuff goes).. |

IMO the best chest rig out there is an HSGI Warlord.
I have the version 3 which has 4 universal mag pouches (holds 2 AK, or 3 AR mags per pouch), plus molle webbing on the sides for other pouches.  |

Thanks, I have an origional chest rig from Arktis. I love it, but it only fits 2 mags per pouch. It is the older version (not like the one shown) |

I use a Black Hawk tactical commando chest harness. It has 4 pockets that hold 3 mags each and 2 smaller pockets on the ends for other stuff.

Eagle Industries-  Unless they are purpose built for the AK, pretty much any universal pouch is only going to only hold 2 mags. As I have found out, the whole chest rig concept is not the best for all around use.... Great for in a vehicle, or CQB, but not great for the field where you have to crawl around.... |

I've got a Specter Gear chest pouch set up for 3 mags. It handles 20 rd. M14/FAL mags, 30 rd. M16 mags, and AK-74 mags fine. The pouches aren't the best fit for a 30 rd. 7.62x39mm mag, but they work.
Very comfortable and for it's intended use, great. Specter does not market these for LRRP use, but for short duration ease of use, and it allows for a rucksack to be worn as well. That Warlord looks good though.

David's collectibles (www.tickbitesupply.com) has the Leapers 3 pocket AK chest rig for $14.99. Kind of hard to beat that price, and it is basically like the older Chicom chest rig except with velcro and buttons instead of wood toggles. They also turn up on Ebay fairly often.

I agree, it is not the good for the prone position. I was able to wear mine in a hummvee, but then the unit I was with banned commercialy made stuff. What other options are there? |

I hate having anything around my neck, or on my chest in front of me when I swing to shoot. (Ok...its ducks, and shotguns) I always have additional ammo on my hip.

Heres mine. Its by Spec ops and sturdy as all get out. Great rig for the price. I would consider it 1 step down from the warlord not quality wise but option wise. But I may get a warlord in the future sometime! Either one is a great chioce!
 Whatever you do buy american not!!!

The V1 has 6 rifle mag pouches + 8 pistol mag pouches.  The V2 has 6 rifle mag pouches.  The V3 has 4 rifle mag pouches and molle webbing on the sides.  The V4 has no mag pouches, but molle webbing over the entire front and sides.  I chose the V3 because it gives me the ability to carry up to 8 30rd AK mags, and on the side molle webbing I attatched two double pistol mag pouches. |
