Been bored the last few days, so decided to take pics of some of the AK related canvas collection.. It just sits in my closet, so will show it off a bit, as well as help others ID stuff... All the pouches have been purchases as accessories for kits and or builds that I have..

For now, I just have done the mag pouches.. Maybe later, I will do slings, drop/carry cases and/or scopes.

Anyways, not meant to be anything set in stone.. If you have anything to add or correct, by all means do. These are just the ones I have....

Sorry for the poor quality of the pics..

Soviet/Russian

First AK-47. Been told by the Russians that these are 1949-55, but the only ones I have seen (coming from both Russia and Ukraine) were dated 1953..

Late AK-47, early AKM.. Been told by the Russians that these were issued in 1955 on, but have seen some stamped 1953.. 1963 is the last stamp that I have seen, but could be later.

AKM- These come in assorted colors.. All have the same construction layout with space for 3 30rd mags. Have seen them dated 1965 to 1988.

AK-74. These come in different colored leather trim. . There doesnt seem to be any pattern to it. Only had a few batches of these, all from the late 80s.

Many Russian pouches have a little wood placard sewn on the flap for the soldiers ID.. I was lucky to get a 74 pouch with a fresh one.. For fun, I added my name in Russian-

Modern AK-74 pouch- These seem to be a little roomier then the Soviet era...Not sure if its just a manufacturing variation, or intentional.

RPK drum pouch. These are meant to be left on the drum when it is in the weapon-

RPK 40rd mag pouch. 4 mags, and with a carry strap-

RPK74. Top one is earlier dated, other is dated 1988.... Just to show the manufacturing variations-

East Germany

Early AK-47/AKM, 2 variations-

AKM-

Standard AK-74-

Late AK-74-

Bulgaria-

Earlier AK-47-

Later AK-47-

AK-74-

Poland-

RPK drum pouch-

Hungary-

AMD65 20 rd mag pouch-

Yugoslavia-

North Korea; This pouch is supposed to be an original, and cost an arm and a leg; While it does match the one N.Korean sling, it is a little too clean and nice to be a battlefield capture (which a N.Korean pouch would have to be). Makes me wonder. -

Slings

Russian/Soviet

Early sling with leather end; Have had 1951 and 1952.

Sling with metal end.. Most have the metal painted green- Have seen 1952 to 1977..

Others, have bare metal.. Not sure if its galvenized- No pattern to it....

Standard sling with galvenized metal. Have seen 1979 to present..

Latest sling with galvenized metal and two D-rings; Some have said these were created for the commercial market, but have seen Russian Police using the same sling on an AKS74U-

Early leather slings; Not sure what the deal is on these.....These came via Ukraine-

Date stamps; Each factory had their own unique stamp.. They have the name of the factory (normally some Communist crap) and the year.... Most of the slings I have all came from the same Army depot in the Izhevsk area, so are all pretty much the same... Here are the ones from my personal collection.. Will add more as time goes on..

1951-

1952-

1954-

1955-

1961-

1962-

1965-

1967-

1968-

69-

1970-

1971-

1972-

1974-

1977-

1979-

1982; Have seen the same stamp with 1988 and 1979 as well.

1988; Have seen the same stamp dated 1979 as well..

Bulgarian black sling; Came to me as part of an Bulgarian AKS74U basic issue items pack-

Bulgarian green sling; Came to me as part of a Bulgarian AK47 basic issue items pack-

North Korean sling;

If anyone has any to submit, please do.

we should tack this thread, its really a good resource....TACK ITTTTTTTT

I have a pouch that doesn't match any of those shown above (at least from what i can tell). It came with my Century M70. 2 cell AKM mag pouch mad of dark green canvas, kind of looks like the Yugo one but with no strap, and has small pouches on the fron for the "lipstick" cleaning kit and an oil bottle. When I pick the rifle up tonight I'll snap a pic.

Basically looks like a 3 cell pouch with on less cell and 2 small pouches on the front, if that makes any sense...

Nice collection. Thanks for sharing.

What is interesting to me is the obviously better quality of construction shown in the other Eastern Bloc nations pouches.

Will try to do the slings tomorrow, though almost all the slings I have here are Soviet ones...

Link Posted: 12/19/2005 1:35:35 PM EDT
Do you collect uniforms and such as well?

It's interesting to see several of the ammunition pouch variations in one place. I'd like to see some sling comparisons as well. Interesting stuff!

I've got a three cell chest rig that is supposedly Vietnam era Chicom manufacture. If I photograph it could you help me identify it?

Good idea Rob. I love a good refernce thread. Thanks for sharing.

Here's my small addition:
Bulgarian 74 pouch (marketed as "Red Guard" pouches here) (US made Strawaberry Shortcake blanket)

Hungarian canvas 7.62 30 rd. (Wish I knew what I did with this one)

Hungarian leather 7.62 30 rd. with sling.

I'll be interested in the sling pix, I've got one that's a wierd blue/green
color, woven material, with keeper.

Just curious, can anyone ID this pouch? Picked them up at a gunshow for $5 each. They fit AK mags perfectly, but I don't know if they were made for them.

No markings other than a number stamped under the pouch cover.

JeepCreep, As I recall the CJA stood for China Jin An, a Chinese-owned and -operated importing house specializing in the Polytech stuff in the Olden Days when it was still coming in. A guy I knew who I believe to have done Intelligence work told me that Jin An was the Chinese Interior Security Department, roughly (but not precisely) equivalent to the KGB. You can see the CJA stamp on a lot of the early Chinese-import .223 (the yellow box stuff-- I still have a little), and they brought in some very nice SKSes as well, usually distinguishable by the fact that the rear sling swivel is on the side of the stock, rather than the toe. I still have one with the bore full of cosmolene.

Damn, I miss being an FFL in a world of $43 SKSes--

This is awsome, I hadn't pondered these items yet. I picked up one of the Striped ones

That was the consensus of the AK knowledgeable folks at the gunshop...looks just like a Romy 3 cell pouch, except 2 cells with cealning kit pouches. Neato!

I have a pouch I ran across buried in my old stuff.....it appears to have a Russian ink stamp and is a 3-cell AK pouch. Odd thing about it is that the canvas is black - white ink stamp. Anyone ever seen a black one before ?

Terry G3. Sounds interesting...post a pic. I have a dark navy blue Soviet sling. Wonder if yours might be a very dark blue?
Link Posted: 12/20/2005 2:58:24 PM EDT
It's definitely black

Link Posted: 12/20/2005 4:00:31 PM EDT
This is a Chinese chest pouch I got a few years back. What makes it unusual in my mind, is that it has 4 mag cells, not the usual three. And no, it wasn't a split & sew of two 3-cell pouches.

Link Posted: 12/20/2005 7:32:37 PM EDT
I've got a full rig in black; AK pouch, grenade pouch and canteen cover, used by the Soviet Naval Infantry.

I've also seen photos of the RD-54 parachutist's web gear in black as well, but never could find a set on the market.

The SFLD MI is Southfield Michigan, SFLD is the abriviation for Southfield. CJA could be the intials of whoever onwed the mag. Southfield is the next town over from where i live. McM

Stottman,

I've been curious for a long time what the make is of this AK magazine pouch. If you, or anyone else can identify this, I would greatly appreciate it. There does not appear to be any writing or markings, and the button on the side seems to be the only possible identifier I can see on it.

The green strap was added later, and is not original, nor is the small white piece which is on the opposite side of the small accessory pouches. If you need the history behind it, I can post that, but I don't want to force people to read my ramblings if there is no need.

Link Posted: 12/22/2005 4:32:13 PM EDT
All I can tell you is that it is Syrian. Or at least the button is.
Link Posted: 12/22/2005 4:45:55 PM EDT
OK, that confirms what I had thought. It was taken out of a knocked out Syrian APC in the Golan Heights back in the Yom Kippur war.

Thankyou.

Iraqi 4-cell canvas chest pouch. Stamps are illegible, so I'm not certain if it was made in Iraq, or imported.

As worn by the "Wolf Brigade" Interior Ministry troops.

The pocket have snaps instead of toggles like ChiCom chest rigs.

Look, Yugoslavian mags in the mag pouch

On the later AK-74 type slings.

You have both tan/khaki style ...but 1 has just one sling ring clasp on one end, and 1 has sling ring clasps on both ends....

Which one would be more appropriate for the Century Series/AK-100 rifles?
