Where to get mags? I checked over on the EE, but not much going on besides the 75 round drums. What is the most I should pay for the 30/40 rounders? Are there any mags I should stay away from? (This board needs a MAG FAQ board like AR.com, lol) How about the best deals on ammo around? From doing some research, it seems the AK's can take the cheap Russian stuff with no problems, unlike the AR's. Thanks all for getting me on my way. Also, is there a dustcover that has a rail for optics on it, like a FNFAL, or just the mounts that attach to the side? And why no hold open on the last shot?

stay away from the top scope mounts they are garbage, the side rail is the only sure mount

If it's properly riveted.

As I found out today, nothing is sure.

Ive found the best places to buy AK mags are at gun shows, Ive never paid over $10 each for new ones, centerfire has them for around $30 for 4 plus shipping.

I'm waiting on a deal Aim Surplus has on mags. 10 Polish for $69.50. I was hoping they would show up yesterday, but alas, maybe Monday or Tuesday.

From what I read it was to keep the design simple and free of extra parts. Maybe someone else has a more detailed explanation.

Like you I was surprised at first. A pain when at the range when the bolt should be open.

as you know, no bolt hold open on an empty mag..

HOWEVER, did you know on some of the SAR's you can pull and hold your charging handle to the rear and then pull the trigger. let go of the handle, it should stay open

To keep debris out of the breech.

Mine showed up Thursday after ordering them on the 7th. Well worth the wait IMO. They were NIW.

Like he said AIM is the only way to go for mags.
